Product Overview

Circuit breakers protect the wires in your home from overheating (referred to as an overload) and fault currents (referred to as short circuits). The Eaton Cutler-Hammer 15/20 Amp 1 in. Duplex Type BD Circuit Breaker is also known as tandem or circuit limiting breaker. This style of breaker will only fit into load center bus stabs that are notched to accommodate the rejection clip built into the bus bar contact on the breaker. This is a code requirement that limits the number of breakers that can be installed into a load center.

  • Primary function of a circuit breaker is to protect the wire from overheating (overload) and fault currents (short circuit)
  • Amperage - (1) 15 Amp and (1) 20 Amp
  • Duplex 1 in. wide breaker
  • Trips to center position - must turn off then turn back on
  • For use in type BR load centers
  • Interrupt rating - 10 kAIC
  • Voltage rating is 120
  • Wire size - #14-4 AWG Cu/Al at 60°C or 75°C
  • Carry listing for HACR applications
  • Breaker has a rejection tab feature

Customer Questions & Answers

What is the tab for

Explain what the tab is for
Asked by: Denny
The tab is to prevent tandem breakers from being installed where they are not designed to go. Some panels don't want you to use tandem breakers or only allow them in specific spots. Tandem breakers without the tab (non-CTL) are for panels before the 1960's requirement started and are normally more expensive. So this BD1520 is for modern panels and the equivalent BR1520 is for really old panels. See for history

Customer Reviews

15/20 Amp Single-Pole Type BD Tandem BR Circuit Breaker is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Product as as advertised and met the need The dual current piggy back breaker is very handy in the situation that I faced. I needed to add a 20 amp breaker on the second pole of the panel for a split kitchen circuit with one nuteral (3c #12 w/ground), and I had no space. Replaced a single 15 amp breaker with this one. Problem solved. Of course, you can't really rate the quality of a circuit breaker until it works or fails, but from a installation/problem solving perspective, this breaker is great!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk A piece of junk. I bought it for the 15 amp cicuit breaker. It worked. The 20 amp breaker will not stay set to on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saved a space Discovered a space in the breaker box used by a single 20 amp. breaker and was in need of adding a single outlet 15 amp. circuit in order to lighten load on other outlet circuits. This fit the bill perfectly by replacing the single 20 with the dual 15/20. Since load would be for a heater as opposed to an air conditioner unit, load would never be used at the same time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Breaker We are remodeling and addition by the previous owner and needed to add a few circuits. Without replacing the entire panel we went from 8 circuits to 12. We have had no problems. This all done under the supervision of my electrician neighbor. I highly recommend.
