It says dedicated breaker, although there is no load with this device and what size breaker would you recommend.

Asked by: JustChillinFool
A 2 pole 15 amp circuit breaker. Please use the breaker that is UL certified for the panel in which the surge device will be installed. For example, if you have a BR panel, use a BR circuit breaker. Eaton

whole house surge protection single phase

can this surge protector be mounted inside the panel. also what are the 15 amp breaker is used for when you are protecting the main before it gets to the branch circuit work all the surge protector single and three phase I've ever installed we're connected straight to the lugs or breaker main. unless I overlooked it I did not see what it was rated for joules. in other words exactly how much electricity or lightning would it take for this thing to be ineffective also what it has been struck is a reusable or does it have to be replaced

Customer Reviews

Complete Home Surge Protection is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 42.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy install This was an easy install for a pro (me). An advanced DIY'er should be able to install as well. Not for newbies. Purchased in conjunction with the coax module. I wish HD would expand this product line to include some of the higher end units. HD had the best cost for this product (local or online). My only gripe is that the leads need to be longer. Another 6" would have been great. The manufacturer said it's not OK to splice, so I reoriented the mounting to account for the short leads.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Product was easy to install. I had a question about the 12" long length of the wires so I called the Eaton tech support phone number and they gave me a simple answer that helped allot. The black and red wires that go to the breaker should not be extended but the white and ground wires could be extended a little to reach to the neutral bar and to the ground bar in the breaker panel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product; easy to install I installed this surge protector onto my cutler-hammer breaker panel. I chose this model to match the manufacturer of the panel. Installation was easier than I expected. I punched out a 1/2" knock-out hole on the bottom of the panel, installed the neck of the surge of the box through the hole, then tightened the lock nut. Piece of cake! No additional mounting hardware was required. The only unexpected thing I ran into was I needed a new dedicated 15 amp double pole breaker as my panel had no spares. Cost was $10, but note it's required before you get into it and discover you don't have one. Green lights are on and it appears to be working. I guess only time will tell if it's effective against surge/spikes but from a build quality and installation point I would recommend this product. I paired this with a 4,000 joule surge protector at my TV which I ordered online. Hopefully the combination of the protection at the panel with a high end surge/strip at the TV will save me next time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good bang for the buck I compared the features and specs of this whole house surge protector with numerous others. This one was comparable to all the others, even those that cost up to 4x the price. What sold me on it was the lifetime warranty, clear installation instructions and great price. Installation time was under a half hour including time required to reroute some existing wires in the service panel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy install Product was easier than I expected to install. Need to make sure you have the room in your electric panel for the double breaker switch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Installation is easy and the price is right! If you don't have experience working inside an Electric Panel, I suggest you hire an Electrician. If you do have the know how, these are very easy to install. You need two open spaces in your electric panel, a 15 amp circuit breaker(same brand as the panel), and that's it. From start to finish it should take approximately 15 minutes. Your home and all electronic devices are now protected.
