Freezing conditions in a cabin

Does it drain completely so it can be in a cabin that is not always heated?
Asked by: john
Yes, YOu can drain this unit you should have a drain point lower than the unit and a vent point at one of the higher points, and make sure both the vent and drain are open at all times when you close up the cabin.

I see that some complaints were with the issue of controlling the temperature. Can this not be done by adjusting the cold water tap?
Asked by: neil
Hi there, Neil! Our FVI12-LP is a manual tankless water heater, meaning you adjust your desired temperature using the two knobs on the actual heater and not at the sink. It's perfect for cabins, cottages, condos, and smaller homes. If you would like a unit that you can set and let it go and not have to deal with the manual portion, I'd recommend our i12 that comes in NG and LP. This unit is okay to mix cold and hot, since it is automatic. Thank you, Eccotemp Systems, LLC.

can this unit be vented using the existing (through the roof vent) from my old W/heater or do you have to use the through the wall that comes with it?

Asked by: Bill
Hi Bill, You must use a venting system approved for use with this water heater. Your existing water heater vent may not be sufficient. Mike

It was minus 15 degrees this morning outside and +70 inside the room the unit was installed, the cold air came down through the exhaust vent and froze the upper coils and split them, flooding occured, no warranty on unit through Home depot because I didnt use a Home Depot credit card. Now I have to try to find my warranty and try to contact the manufacturer. Very disappointed with Home Depot. I've spent $10-20k with home depot over the last couple years. To be treated like this is infuriating. To warranty a product does not just protect the product it protects the company who sells the product from losing valuable business. ARE YOU TAKING NOTE HOME DEPOT!!!!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First class product! I bought this water heater to replace a 15 year old tankless hot water heater in a small house. Installation was straight forward as all I had to do was sweat a few connections to adapt it to fit. The Eccotemp worked better than expected. I admit I live in a place where water temp is about 68F year round, but this heater cranks out all the hot water I want and is set on the lowest temp and nearly lowest gas setting it can. My house is rural and has catchment water with a pressure pump. It responds instantly with 25 PSI and seems very steady as the pressure rises to 65 PS which indicates the temp control system works flawlessly. The out put pressure is a vast improvement over the old heater which was barely adequate at 1.7 GPM. With insulated pipes I believe this unit would be adequate for a 2 bath home. The auto light feature works flawlessly and the forced air flow vent system is included and a snap to install. In a house that has a conventional tank type water heater, All you need to do is cut a hot and cold pipe and install a T fitting on each one, then run the pipes to the heater. Cut a 6Inch hole in the wall for the vent pipe and the heater can be used indoors out of the weather. I hooked mine up near the kitchen sink pipes so instant hot water to the sink is only seconds away. The bath is about 10 feet from the kitchen and takes just 30 seconds or so to reach full hot. At $280.00 it was less than half the cost of the15 year old heater. Even better was the free shipping to Hawaii. Thank you Home Depot for a fantastic deal.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I would purchase another brand It was very difficult to adjust water temperature to stay at an even temperature. I had to settle for very hot and wash and rinse off quickly, in Fall and Winter this is OK. Don't know about Spring and Summer yet

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 3 GPM tankless heater This seemed like a good idea at the time for my cabin. But after paying a plumber to remove a 110 elec. heater and install this one. You will burn your self then freeze within 2 mins. You can't find find a happy temp. So I removed it and put back in a new elec. hot water tank. If you are thinking of going tankless spend $1,200.00 or more because I hear they work This idea cost me for a plumbing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Eco Temp Propane Tankless I purchased this unit for the hand wash sink in my shop in late 2014. Its now 2016. It worked great for about a month. It quit working and flashed an E-3 code and never worked again. Service is good but they never could solve my issues. They sent me a new gas/water valve this I installed and it didn't work. I then sent the unit back to the factory and they said it worked perfectly at their location. They sent it back to me and guess what? It did not work. They have had me change the regulator two times and told me it would not work on 10" WC and wanted me to switch to a NG regulator with 6" WC. I'm done. This is a Overseas junk unit. I got what I paid for. Save yourself the grief and go buy a real unit for 1000.00 and be done with it.
