is this heat treated for jumping worms? Thanks
Asked by: sab
We do not heat-treat our compost. Our soils are composted for several weeks which generally kills any dangerous bacteria, but allows beneficial microbes to live.

Why don't you sell EcoScraps garden soil anymore in your stores? I always came to your stores to buy this product.

Asked by: Va
I wish I could answer your question but I had order it on line and picked up in store. I did not know that the store stocked this material.

Mixed one bag of each in my wheelbarrow before putting around my citrus trees. I live in Vegas and the soil is the worst here! My first-time gardening and want to save my citrus trees from pests and malnutrition and read I need to compost the soil. Hoping it's not too late for this year's fruit, but thinking it is. This stuff stinks worse than the steer manure, but who cares, I'm not eating it. Afterwards, I put a thin layer of peat moss on top and misted the beds down with some water. Yes, there were pieces or red/white grocery bad scattered throughout my compost, but I picked it out. The first bag was tough to loosen and mix in my wheelbarrow. I then figured out I should shake and roll the bad vigorously before opening it (like a bag of ice). This made mixing with the manure much easier. Watch out for the flies as you work with this stuff. They go away after the first day. Spreading the thin layer of peat moss on top and misting it down probably helped with getting rid of the flies. Overall, good stuff.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Soil I have ever used Bought 7 bags today at the Home Depot when the sales associate told me the story on how this product is made. They take old produce from stores that would otherwise go into landfills and compost it for use in gardens. Great way to save the planet. Highly recommend this product especially for vegetable gardens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful organic product I am using this product for my raised beds in preparation for growing season. The bags were water tight which is a huge deal when combining with other dry ingredients. The soil smelled good too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Update to my previous review I contacted EcoScraps about the problem bags and they immediately responded and fixed the situation. Few companies [anymore] take such proprietorship in their quality- so I'm bumping the rating up to 5 stars. The site won't let me update a posted review- so I hope this counters the previous 4 stars. I look forward to seeing how my fruits and veggies do with this stuff. -- Would love to see worm castings added to their product line.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Inconsistent quality, but if you get a good bag.... In the good bags-- this stuff is great. Was dark, fluffy, and moist like a chocolate cake. (even have to keep the dogs from eating it) However, the quality is inconsistent. I purchased at least 20 bags from 3 different stores this month. 4 of 6 bags purchased at a particular store were sour smelling, contained bits of plastic, were dry and had white mold across the top. It was covered in flies by the next afternoon and the smell is still there. I covered it with an additional 5 [good] bags in hopes that the bottom layer will continue decomposing. A few other [good] bags were used for tropical plants/trees so we'll see how they fare. All but two beds of my garden were planted with this stuff, so despite the 4 bad bags, I liked the product enough to continue purchasing.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good but not good I normally, as a veganic farmer, do not buy compost but make it myself, plus I have worm trenches. However, I heard of this product and decided to try it for my greenhouse plants. To preface my opinion - I never have had aphids in the decade on this farm. I planted everything using this compost; in air pots. I started having a huge aphid population. So they must have been on the produce they composted, and laid eggs. After about two months and no let up I took everything out of the pots, scoured the pots and re-potted with coir. No aphids. I am now using the rest of the pallet I bought in my no-till gardens. It will be under 18" of hay so the chances are that there will not be a aphid problem. I would recommend this product only in a no-till garden type of situation.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Inconsistent I really wanted to like this product because they divert food waste from landfills, but the product isn't consistent or good in my experience. I don't use chemical fertilizers in my yard and like to add compost to my raised beds every spring to replenish nutrients and organic matter. I make my own compost, but rarely ever have enough and need to buy a few bags to supplement. The first time I bought a bag of this it was very heavy. The product was very dark, wet and clumpy. I thought I'd give them one more shot and bought another bag nearly a year later. This time the product was loose, but course, almost woody. The smell when I opened the bag almost knocked me over- ammonia! It had either not been composted enough or properly. Will not purchase again.
