Can bulbs be removed to shorten the lighted length?

I have a couple of spots where these sets are not the right length to end at the correct spot on my partial gables. As a result, I wind up with extra length of unneeded lights. Can I remove the bulbs and tape over the sockets? I know with older incandescent bulbs, doing this would increase the current to the remaining bulbs and shorten their lifespan. I'm not certain how these newer LED strands work.

LightingScience makes the regular LED bulbs for Home Depot but they do not make these. I have no idea who the manufacturer is or I'd check with them.

Answer:
You can get black matte covers to go over the bulbs you don't want to show, and use black electrical tape to cover the wire you don't want to show. Then you can fold/lift up the blacked out parts behind the lit up lights so they don't show, especially at night when the lights are on.

Answer:
We do not suggest pulling out the bulbs and using tape to cover the sockets. This will increase the current to the remaining bulbs and will shorten the lifespan of the lights.

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 21 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful light show! I really love these icicle lights! They are the warm white, rather than cool, and they glow so brightly. We live on a rather dark street, and the glow can be seen from several houses away. These lights, and the colored lights from an outdoor Christmas tree, with two lighted deer (also from Home Depot), made a wonderful display and we received many compliments. The only problem with the lights is that they are tightly packed in their boxes and are challenging to untangle when first removed from the box. I bought cord winders for them, and stored them that way for next year. So the hanging next year will be a breeze! January 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The Bright and The Beautiful Bought enough of these to cover the front of my split-level a few years ago and they looked great, so we bought more last year to continue down the sides of the house. They all still look great and work great. The bulb covers do tend to come off when moving them around while putting them up, so you have to watch for exposed LEDs, but the covers go back on easily. Huge plus with the 7-year warranty, and with HD's option to email the receipts at checkout, it works out well. Have not had to replace any sets yet. Have not even had to use any of the provided replacement LEDs yet. The sets feel very sturdy and have proven themselves to be so far. For comparison, in the attached picture, the lights in the bushes and tree are incandescent sets. December 2, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great replacement lights The soft white color is a perfect match for the old lights that they replaced. Plus they use way less energy and give off more light. December 11, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This product is wonderful and very bright. I ordered these lights to replace some strings that had burned out. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the strings on these lights were very supple and would hang straight out even in the cold weather. For being LED lights they are very bright, no additional lighting is needed on the front porch that they hang around. I would definitely recommend these lights. December 26, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good lights With this strand, I was attempting to match up lights i already had on the house. These weren't the exact ones i needed, but they will do...and nobody will notice. January 19, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Longevity is not as expected We paid a lot more for these lights than normal lights, thinking we'd get more years out of them. They looked great last year. Imagine our disappointment that today we go to put them up, and the majority of the strands are partially burned out. Not worth the money considering we only got one season out of them. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by outside lights Great lights. Hard to find at local stores. Had to order online. Needs to be made more available. December 29, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just what I wanted Bought several sets of icicle lights in the past but never found a set I really liked until these. Most of them were to short for my taste but these hang down low and for a LED they dont have the blue look. I got the warm white lights which are a nice bright white color. The only negative thing is that they are expensive and the strands are short. I think they were about 9 feet. Also I purchased 10 boxes for the house and out of the 10 I had 2 strands that were different in color than the rest. I took them back and got two new boxes and they were good. Ive read several reviews about this same thing. I would recommend plugging these in and checking each strand before hanging. I had no problems with the exchange. Hope this helps December 25, 2013
