I have 200 amp service. Is it big enough for the 27 kw

Asked by: Butch
I too have 200 amp home service. When I moved from a traditional tank type to this, I used the existing 40 amp space for my existing water heater and two additonal spots for the other two breakers. I have never had any electrical issues.

I have a Jacuzzi tub that fills faster than 5 GPM (plus 3 showers + a washing machine + a dish washer, etc.) so I've put two of these units in series (see photo), setting the first to 126 degrees and the second to 124 degrees so that the second is activated only when needed (quite rarely). For the first time since we've lived in our house, our kids and guests can shower or bathe in hot water ever after we've filled our Jacuzzi tub. Fabulous!!! Did I mention that this product has a lifetime warranty and has a super-small footprint. I've been replacing my way-too-big (80 gal), way-too-energy-hungry water heater every 8-12 years like clockwork (rather expensive). Now I think we're set for life!

However, the brand I had before was nowhere NEAR as well-made as this. During the 20 years I used that brand, I had to replace it FOUR times due to leaks. And, I had to replace the motherboard twice to to component failure. The Eco27 is simplicity itself. Not convoluted motherboards with a ton of components to burn out. The chambers are COPPER unlike the former brand I had which were plastic or resin. I did a LOT of research before I chose the Eco27. After I installed it (which was a piece of cake following the instructions), I was rather surprised to find how quickly it heated the water. My old unit had four elements and it didn't heat the water as fast as the Eco27 with three. These guys did it RIGHT. Be sure to use their sizing guide to determine which Ecosmart is right for you.

We have a family of 4 that likes to take long hot showers. With our old 50gal after the 2nd or third shower water was cold not now. We live in northern Ohio so in the cold months it delvers the hottest showers if no other hot water is run at the same time. And if you run your bath water the slower you run the water the hotter it will be. And we save on our electricity bill as it does not have to keep water heating in the tank when we are not home, I self installed this unit myself using sharkbite connectors off the shelf . Did have to add 3 ( 40amp )breakers to my breaker box. There are good videos on youtube on Installation

The first one gave lukewarm water. Evidently only one heating element was working. Home Depot replaced it at no charge. The second one did not work at all and in addition it leaked at one of the joint in the heater. Ecosmart replaced the second one, so for a third time we found ourselves installing one of their heaters. This third heater worked well, and we breathed a sigh of relief...for 6 months! It has now quit working. So we are going to eat our loss, and buy a different brand. Three strikes and you are out!

Completely satisfied with this water heater installed as a whole-house unit (2,200 sq ft, two bath house). It is easy to adjust the temperature of the hot water being delivered by turning the dial on the front of the unit. Temperature of the hot water is displayed on a large LED. I would not recommend this as a do-it-yourself project because of the electrical work that must be properly completed. For your own safety, please hire professional help to install this.

First off I live in Savannah, GA needless to say my ground water temp is probably mid 60's. At its coldest. I installed this unit myself in a day to include all Plumbing and electrical work. I did have to run new electrical 3 runs of 8/2 Romex, and 3ea. 40A dbl pole breakers. I'm extremely handy with home renovation work. Plumbing took about 10 minutes total as I located my new Tankless unit on a sub panel close to the old 50gal tank. I also used the SharkBite Tankless water heater installation valve kit to connect my 3/4" PEX water lines. My system has been installed and running flawlessly for about a week. There are 2 adults and 3 teenagers in my home and we haven't had our usual evening hot water issues at all. We do have to slow the flow down when filling our garden tubs but common sense ( and the directions ) tell you the unit cannot keep up running full bore on a 3/4 inch water supply at 55 PSI the water doesn't make contact with the heating elements long enough to properly heat. However, with the faucet 3/4 open the water is exactly at the 125°F that I set the EcoSmart27 to. Showers are awesome endless hot water so far we have ran 2 showers and several sinks at the same time with no noticeable loss of hot water. Yes, all sinks and showers have the factory water saver devices installed. I couldn't be happier with this unit. I have recommended this unit to all of my friends and family. On a side note If I had Natural Gas in my home I would have installed a Gas Tankless unit. The installation would have been a little simpler.

Normally I do not provide feedback on products unless it is really bad or excellent. In this instance this product is ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS. Called and spoke to a couple of different tech support folks at Ecosmart to make sure I was getting the proper size unit and still no good. Not sure how the Ecosmart did their testing to come up with their advertising figures, but in the real world there is NO WAY THIS UNIT CAN HANDLE ANYTHING MORE THAN A SINGLE SHOWER AT BEST IF YOU WANT HOT WATER OVER 105 DEGREES and that is with a flow rate of probably 1 GPM. Their advertising info. is so far from the mark, that it is a flat out lie and false advertising. Bottom line, this is maybe good for a studio apartment with one shower. If you want the full details read below. Total time spent (wasted) installing unit and trouble shooting about 16 hours over 4 days, not including time spent going to HD for parts. The ecosmart 27 model states 5.3 GPM, however, could not even get 2 GPM if you want hot water. The description states "The ECO 27 is one of the most powerful models from our full line of tankless water heaters, with the capacity to handle a large single-family home and is perfect for a large Roman-style and Jacuzzi tub or high demand of hot water between multiple applications, even in colder climates". http://www.ecosmartus.com/products/electric-tankless/eco-27/#product-tab1 1. Location is Northern NJ (a green zone on their sizing map) and according to the map it should handle two showers and sink at the same time with the inlet temp being 52 degrees and an output at 105 degrees based on their website at http://www.ecosmartus.com/products/electric-tankless/eco-27/#product-tab3 2. Home has 4 full baths (one with jacuzzi tub) and a 1/2 bath. Wanted to be able to run two devices at same time at the minimum. (kitchen sink & shower or Laundry and Kitchen sink, or two showers) Wanted to originally get the 36 model, but did not as I would had to upgraded the electrical supply coming into the house to 300amps (cost about $2,000) which I considered seriously but based on conversation with the tech support, went with the 27 as they said it would at the minimum handle two showers at once. Ran the required electric three dbl pole circuits with ground using 8 AWG wire and connected to the unit (spent ~ $600 in materials). Set the temp to 120 degrees and opened the hot water on sink closest to the unit. After waiting about 5 minutes or so water would not get hot, so I raised the temp to max of 140 degrees. Still no hot water (luke warm at best) Called tech support and checked to make sure that the proper AMPS (234 AMPS), heating elements, thermostats, and everything else was in good working condition but no hot water. One of service tech said, that the flow was to much and that I should use a flow reducer and suggested using a ball valve to decrease the flow rate on the outlet port on the unit. Re-plumbed the unit and installed ball valve and slowed the flow (volume of water) the temp did go up, however could only use one sink or shower at a time. When trying to use sink and shower water flow was diminished to a point that it is about 1/4 of the normal flow rate and really not good for showering. According to the map even in the blue zone with an inlet temp of 37 degrees, the unit should be able to run 2 sinks and a shower at 105 degrees with 2,7 GPM. There is no way this is possible, as I had to almost completely shut off the ball valve to get hot water guessing flow was reduced to ~ 1GPM to reach ~105 degrees. The water in the shower basically had no pressure but at least warm / hot. Then my wife tried to take a bath (jacuzzi tub) with nothing else and the water flow was a trickle and could not fill the tub (the water in the tub turned cold even though it was only filled up about a 1/8th of the way) Do not buy this product.... Had it for about two weeks. It does not meet my expectations.
