Questions & Answers

Could this be installed under a kitchen sink in line with a remote water heater to provide instant hot water?

Would this "super heat" the water once the 120 degree water from the whole-house water heater entered this point of use heater?
Asked by: Sparky
Yes. My reason for installing one is that the kitchen sink is 50 ft away from the main water heater. (Upwards of 5 min and several gallons later). Installing this in line with the main heater will give you hot enough water instantly and when the water from the main heater hits the thermostat on the new heater it simply shuts off.

is the unit equipped with a standard 110v plug

Asked by: Martin
No. The heater is rated at 3.5kW (3,500 Watts). 3500W / 110V = 31.82 Amps.(roughly 30 Amps). Your standard 110V outlet is only 15 Amps and the heater would not be able to function as designed. --- You'll need to have a special 30-Amp breaker installed with 10-gauge wire run to a junction box where this unit will be installed. I recommend a certified electrician.

Can this unit be used to heat a shower or kitchen sink without the help of a whole house unit?

I want to set up POU water heaters at each water usage location because I don't want to replace my whole house water heater, but I need to know that this unit works on its own and not with the help of a whole house tank.
Asked by: JA1237
Definitely not this unit. You can use a POU water heater for a shower but there are better brands than this one out there.

Temperature Control

What sort of temperature control does this device offer? Can you set the output temperature to a certain value, as long as the system has the ability to heat to that value?
Asked by: Avi
No, there is no way to set the temperature on this device. The temperature is regulated by water flow and unless you have a tremendous of water flow passing through the unit you will never exceed more than 92 or 93 degrees.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very disappointing. What they don’t tell you is how... Very disappointing. What they don’t tell you is how poorly it works. Because it’s 115V, to actually heat the water means that you have to turn it down to a trickle. They even tell you that in the directions - AFTER you purchase the product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is a good product. This product was easy to install, if you don't mind laying on your back, under the sink. It works as described. However I think it is rather slow in producing hot water considering that the heater is only 24 inch. from the faucet. Perhaps this is due to the unit being only 120V. You are not able to set the temperature as you can do on their larger units. This unit starts at around 65-70 degrees when you turn the faucet on and increases in temperature as the water flows. If I had to do it again I would consider the 220V unit. Each unit requires their own breakers, so your electrical panel comes into play. I have a whole house unit as well from EcoSmart (220V) and that works really well.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Buyers beware I purchased this to get hot water in a small bathroom only for washing hands. The water needs at least 3 mins to get to 90 degrees. That's the hottest it gets with the 1.5 gpm aerator from my faucet. The problem is that most faucets( the Kohler I bought from HD at the same time) don't allow for the aerator adapter of .5gpm that comes with it. So with the 1.5 the temp doesn't get warm at all. I would definitely NOT recommend this product. Although the HD associate tried hard to find me a different faucet or aerator adapter, there was nothing available. It seems too difficult to have to compromise flow so much to bring it down to .5gpm to get the hot water you would expect. My big beware is that it's not just the product you are paying for...the electrician for the dedicated wiring and the plumber to install it "properly" this project has me in by close to $600 bucks! What a waste.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good point of use heater for a half bath I like this point of use heater. It gives warm water quickly that's not scalding hot, but much better than the icy cold water we had before. I had only two issues. The included install instructions weren't clear about installing for 120V and I mis-wired it at first; no damage, but it wouldn't work. After watching the help videos on the company website, I quickly realized the problem. My other issue was connecting the pipes. This unit has 1/2 inch fittings and I had to use an adapter for one of the connections. I had a real hard time getting a leak-proof seal. (I cut the seal off an old 1/2 inch connector and used that inside the adapter.) They should either include this adapter or a part number that works good.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Warmer not Heater The water only gets somewhat hot if you run it at a trickle. This is okay for filling a basin if you're patient. If you want to wash your hair or rinse your hands with hot water, forget it. The instructions say to connect the blue wire to neutral and the brown wire to the breaker. The wires are red and black.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from only good if supplied with water of 80 degrees or higher and extremely low flow rate does not get water warmer than 99 degrees fahrenheit during summer months in southern Michigan and that was using supplied aerator and faucet set to 1/2 flow other wise no warmer than 80 reached
Date published: 2013-07-04
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Get the 220V. Easy to install. It does not heat water well at all. You have to constantly adjust the water flow to get the water to get warm at all. Too much flow and it doesn't heat up at all, and too little flow and it doesn't turn on. It does not quite heat up 0.5GMP, the actual rate is closer to 0.3GMP. I have a larger EcoSmart unit that I have had for years and it heats water sufficient for 3 showers and a washing machine with no problem.
