good color. 3000K - maybe a little less.
seem to be good quality.
-very directional light - great for use in can lights (40w equivalent puts out as much light as a 60w incandescent) because all light comes out the top of the bulb. Not so great for lamps because all the light comes out of the top.
-nice for outdoor use because LEDs don't attract insects.
- wait for them to be on sale - regular price is no bargain. Best sales recently have been through homedepot.com on a "four pack" which is just 4 single packages taped together (at about half regular price).

This is a great value led. It produces quite a bit of light for a 40w rated light bulb. Most of the light is directed to the top of the light so I use it in ceiling flood light fixtures and torchiere lamps which direct the light up or down. I was amazed when I measured the watts the bulb used with at Kill-a-watt unit: 5.6 watts! Seems to be as bright as a 15 watt CFL it replaced. Slightly warm white light which is fine for me. They make a warmer more yellow light but I like the color temperature just fine. Great light.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fred Better than incandescents
Bought these for use in our 4 inch recessed lighting fixtures in our remodeled kitchen. We originally used 65 watt incandescent flood lights, but were getting random over temperature trips of the fixtures. It turns out that the new recessed fixtures have a 50 watt maximum rating. After reading other reviews, we decided on trying these LED bulbs. We prefer their slightly warm light output color over the incandescents that they replaced. They, also, work well with our dimmer. We have been using 40/60 watt Crees for a few of our desk lamps and they work great for these. But for recessed lighting, these EcoSmarts are the lamps to use. We can't be happier with this purchase.

I used these in can lights, and they are perfect for that since they "point" out toward the tip of the bulb. As for the color, I find that they are not as harsh as "daylight" bulbs but are whiter than "warm" white bulbs. They do work on a dimmer but due to the low wattage of the bulbs, they don't dim down as much as an incandescent and they do not turn amber that you may be accustomed to as you dim them down. Finally, due to the low wattage, they do not turn off all the way when using a Leviton Vizia digital dimmer - as a workaround, I used one incandescent in one can (out of six) and the lights would then turn off all the way. This is not a problem on a regular manual dimmer.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Ender2003 Very bright, works well
Got these installed recently, they are very bright lights. The bulb itself has a very solid feel to it. The light is a little directional but still covers the entire room with no issues.
Unlike CFLs, these bulbs don't require a warm-up period and have no mercury in them. I will be phasing these in when we replace bulbs at my house in the future, possibly use some with a softer light.
Unlike some of the commenters, my 4-pack was not simply 4 single packages taped together, mine was a big box that was a true 4-pack. Just thought I would mention that.

Bought 2 four-packs of these at a great sale price to continue with the gradual conversion of our household to LEDs. The immediate full brightness feature makes them much better in our bathroom light fixtures and outdoor lights, especially in cool weather. They are more directional than some designs, so they won't serve in some lamp styles that need lights that radiate more evenly in all directions. We replaced some 60w equivalent spiral CFLs rated at 13w with these 6w units in ceiling can fixtures with no apparent difference in output to the lighted area below.

Simple and easy replacement of the existing bulbs. My first LED bulbs in the light fixtures (CFD before). Only thing of note is that the base of the LED is fairly thick and blocks light from that area, so the light isn't as evenly dispersed for horizontal applications. e.g. above the stove, old bulbs cover entire oven with light, this LED only hits the left side well, right is very dim in comparison. Vertical applications all work great for light evenness. These are dimmable, but I don't have any fixtures to test.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by hubedo Good lights but not for garage door openers
The lights seem brighter than a 40 watt standard. Definitely too bright and white for a reading lamp (at least for my taste. One note, these controller for the LED appears to be poorly shielded and interfered with my remote controller when I tried to install them in my garage door opener. Took me a while to figure out it was the LED light that was doing it but apparently this is a known issue with cheaper LED lights. Never would have guessed. They work fine in my bathroom fixture though.
