Rated 3 out of 5 by EcoSmart 50 Light LED C9 Light Set, Warm White Pros - Long string length (32.5 ft) - Seem to be fairly durable - Seem to be well made - Comes with two extra LED bulbs and fuses - Energy saving Cons - Very dim when compared to the traditional incandescent lights. - Spare bulb housing are not included, so if you break one (one came broken), it appears that you are out of luck. - Although touted as "warm white", they are alot less warm than incandescent lights and do not match well (color wise) if you have other bulbs on the house/bushes/trees/yard. I had high hopes for this new type of bulb. I am a big fan of LED technology. For the most part, LEDs use a fraction of the power of regular bulbs and most LEDs are very very bright. These lights are touted as super energy savers...saving up to ~90% compared to traditional incandescent bulbs. I decide to purchase 9 sets to outline the perimeter of my roof. The lights were fairly easy to install using standard shingle clips. The great thing about these lights is that you can connect up to ~29 sets...and the string lengths are long. Unfortunately, these lights were very dim when compared to traditional incandescent bulbs. Until it got really really dark, it was hard to tell if they were on. To give you a comparison, I would say that these particular lights are only 40% as bright as standard incandescent C9 Christmas lights. This is especially true when you have the lights up on the roof pointing upwards (which is how you would typically install them). The LED bulbs are somewhat "directional", so unless the tip bulb is pointed directly at you, the intensity of the light is greatly diminished. I even repositioned the bulbs to point downwards, but the perceived intensity change (increase) was minimal. The plastic bulb housings are faceted (presumably to help compensate for the directionality of the LEDs), but, again, unless the tip of the bulb is pointed directly at you, the faceting does not do a good job of dispersing (or concentrating) the light. In the end, we returned them for a refund since my wife and I decided that these new, highly efficient LED C9 Christmas lights were just not for us. They are not as bright as "traditional" lights and the color is more of a slightly warm white when compared to traditional clear bulbs (which are a very warm white/yellow). If you decide to give these bulbs a try, I would suggest putting up a string or two to decide if you like them before investing in the time, money, and energy that it takes to decorate the full house/roof. I hope this review was helpful. December 11, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Save money in the long run with these lights. Investing in these lights vs. incandescent will save you a ton of money in electricity costs. To light my house (about 3000 lights) would cost me an average of $400 per season to run incandescent vs. $17 per season to run these! I bought these lights last year and was so impressed with their durability, performance and cost savings that I'm likely doubling the number I put out this year. These are almost identical in appearance to my neighbors that still use incandescent, but they do tend to be a bit dimmer per bulb. They are a very warm, golden light and really twinkle due to the faceted bulb housing. November 5, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Impressed I purchased 9 strands of these for the roof lines of my home back in late 2010 and finally installed them this fall 2011. I shopped around for a while online and in stores. I was very specific in what I was after and would settle for nothing less: I wanted durable strands with the look of incandescents, without the high power usage, yet had bulbs bright enough that didn't appear to flicker as many LED's seem to do (not everyone notices this but it’s obnoxious to me). While professional strands with screw-in sockets allow for more color options (ie. white to match the soffit/fascia color), single wires between sockets rather than multiple small wires, and brighter screw-in LED bulbs, these strands provided the look I was after for a fraction of the cost. The pros definitely outweighed the cons for me. As another reviewer mentioned, because they use such a small amount of power (my 9 strands use about 65w altogether according to the specs on the box) they are noticeably dimmer than normal incandescents and more powerful LED screw-in's, especially when the sun is still out. Like them, I put up one strand to help me decide if they'd provide the look I was after, and it was. In my opinion they are more than bright enough to accent the house and I’ve seen them lit ¾ mile away. As another reviewer also mentioned, the color is still a bit cooler than an actual incandescent though much warmer than a normal white LED. I have five 13w 2700k CFL bulbs as my year-round exterior lighting and I can barely see a noticeable difference in color temperature when they’re shining along with these strands. As far as durability, the hooks on the sockets break easily if you need to use them to hang the lights. Otherwise, I put these up in the first week of Oct when it was unseasonably warm in the low 80's. Since then, they have experienced bright sun, rain, snow, sub-zero temps, high winds, and even +12" icicles hanging from the tips of some of the bulbs. Mother nature has been no match in the 2.5 months thus far which impressed me the most. I’ve received many compliments regarding the display and overall I'm very satisfied with the quality/value. I hope they'll continue to impress a while longer. I’d definitely give them a shot if you’re in the market for efficient lighting like these. December 17, 2011
Rated 4 out of 5 by These lights match our non-LED lights! We wanted to start investing in LED Christmas lights this year to cut down on our holiday electrical bill but we were worried about there being too much of a contrast between existing lights & the new LED lights during the transition. These warm light LED were the perfect solution! December 26, 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by NON DIMABLE & Flicker I sequence lights, got at least 40 strands of these this last week to find out that they in fact DO NOT Dim... If you are planning on sequencing then DO NOT get these...for such an expensive strand you would expect them to be dimable as they were said to be... They are also not even close to evenly spaced so they will look sloopy if you are going for a pro look to your light setup... November 13, 2013
