Rated 4 out of 5Â by Termie Nice design, efficient, but limited uses
I had previously used the EcoSmart 3000K PAR20 bulbs, and so was excited to try this redesigned 5000k PAR20 model. Note that not all the pictures on the Home Depot site are accurate - I have posted a picture of the bulb to show what is actually being shipped. The older models have a bladed heatsink, while this has a very smooth appearance. It also has a much wider placement of LEDs.
Overall, the bulb worked as expected, but the difference between 3000K and 5000k is very significant. I had hoped that this bulb would provide more illumination than the older 3000K bulb I've used (which it does, partly due to lumen output, but also because it has a wider beam). Unfortunately, the light is very, very blue. For that reason, it is not usable in living spaces - it is far too harsh. I'd recommend it for garages, basements, or work benches, where illumnation and a lot of contrast is important. Do not use it in living rooms, bedrooms, or even kitchens. It just doesn't have a pleasing light color.
Of note, the older models, which are still sold as of this date, are wider than a standard PAR20 halogen, and therefore cannot be used in a clip-on can fixture. These new models will fit - they are about the same width as a halogen model. Luckily, they are sold in a 3000K version, and this is what I'd recommend for living spaces.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by supra661 super bright, works great inside fridge
The 5000k color is very blue compared to cfl or incandescent bulbs. If you have several of these together in a room, they would be fine if you like that hue. It gives a very "modern" look to your lighting.
For me, I had too many cfl lights in the area around where I was going to place this LED bulb, so it clashed pretty badly.
Solution? Replace incandescent in the fridge with this LED at one side, and a CFL on the other. The LED lights instantly and creates a nice glow within the fridge. If the door remains open for a few more seconds, the cfl warns up and begins to give additional light that supplements the LED light nicely in that confined space.
This works great for me, especially since I got the LED bulb as an open box for $5 ... I'm happy with it.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by BobC Smaller, LED flood bulb.
EcoSmart PAR20 LED, Spot style light. (SKU 180908) from Home Depot. This product was received through the Home Depot SEEDs program.
Initial impressions, The bulb is some what heaver as compared to similar incandescent bulbs. It weighs ~ 4.45 oz, is 2.5â in diameter, and 3.5â long. The back portion of the âbell housingâ is an aluminum heat sink for the LEDs and internal power supply circuits. The general construction quality looks well made. I measured the power consumed, and the power factor of the bulb. It consumed ~10 watts, and exhibited a power factor of 0.96. I did not have a way to measure the light output other than a subjective comparison to a bulb of similar size and construction. The light output of these units is quite good, in fact they produced a lot more light than my comparison bulb. The bulb is rated for a color temp of 5000K, or a bright white, sometimes stated as a âDay Lightâ color temperature bulb. Ecosmart also makes the 3000K color temperature bulb (SKU 82284), the only difference is the color.
The bulb size is a good fit for smaller lighting fixtures. I install one in a flexible arm desk lamp and it provided as much, or more light than the bulb I had been using. When turned on, they produce full output, unlike CFLs that only produce a low level at turn-on and have to warm up to reach full output. The vendor says they can be used with dimmers. I do not have dimmer switches, so I did not run them with a dimmer. I did not measure the bulb temperature in operation. The fixture that they are used in can effect their operating temperature. I have not noted any temperature problems is my use of them.
I have read that some model LED bulbs can cause RFI interference with home electronics. So far I have not noted any. I have wireless phones and a wireless network installed, have not noted any problems since installing this bulb. They should provide several years of use, and far lower power consumption (~80% less power). As to reliability, time will tell. I would expect them to be equal to or better than similar CFL bulbs. I have several Ecosmart LED bulbs in use now, and overall I have been very pleased with all of them
For applications where the bulb would be hard to access or change, and reliability are prime concerns this should be a good device. They are also the best types for efficient energy use.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by mixmox Looks good!
Since it only uses 8 Watts to produce 490 lumens I look forward to the energy savings.
The color of the light is perfectly fine. Do not look directly at it when it is on, it is really very bright.
It CAN be used with a dimmer.
The package estimates the life to be 25000 hours (3 hours per day for 28.8 years) and it has a 5 year warranty
The light feels solid and the packaging has a slick design and even has an easy opening system.
