Rated 3 out of 5 by Good value, but check your existing housing Overall light quality and color rendering are good with better than average glare control. Great option for damp or wet locations. Unlike several other LED models that provide the socket on a short chord with a quick connector, this one has a fixed socket that may create some installation difficulties when trying to make the trim right tight to the ceiling. Be sure to check the depth and adjustability of your existing recessed housing. February 5, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great product, great price. I've had the other CREE CR6 in my bedroom for 3 years now, and loved them, but the cans in my kitchen were too shallow to accept the higher CRI fixture. These, however, fit perfect and I'm very happy with the results. I have 9 fixtures on 4 separate standard dimmers (CREE bulbs don't need special dimmers). There's no buzz, and the cans are so bright I generally only have them at about 70% power! which means I'm using more like 8-9 watts. My recommendation is to buy several brands, try them out and see how they work for you. By the way, I'm using the Lutron Maestro dimmers with great success. August 30, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Worthless when used with a dimmer I purchased several of these lights to some - some on a dimmer and some not. The lights that are not on a dimmer work great. The ones on a dimmer make a horrible buzzing sound. I called EcoSmart/Home Depot and they recommended the Cree Diva dimmer. Unfortunately it simply does not work, neither does the Maestro, or the other 2 dimmers I happened to have that I tried. Basically these things are worthless when used on a dimmer. Having wasted about 5 hours trying to get them to work I give up. Back to the store. September 5, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Buzzzz I have over twenty of the old model and love them. I just installed four of this new model (lower price is nice), but they all have a constant buzz. I'll call the company and update if I get a resolution, otherwise they'll have to go back. Still same great like quality, but I can't handle the buzz. April 21, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Ecosmart 12.5 Watt Dimmable LED Retrofit Downlight We tried 3 different LED retrofits for four ceiling cans in our kitchen ceiling. The first was a Lithonia, very nice product, high quality, but 3000K which was too harsh a light for the wooden cabinets. They didn't offer a 2700K option or I would have gotten that model. The second was the other CREE Ecosmart Model # ECO-575L, a 2700K 9.5 Watt model. It was very nice, but at the dimmest settings the color of the light turned a funky greenish color. I had purchased 4 of these and one of the Ecosmart Model # ECO-FD6-625L-27K-E26, 12.5 Watt 2700K lights so we could compare them--thinking it being more efficient and producing more lumens, it would look better. The model Ecosmart which we ending up purchasing (Model # ECO-FD6-625L-27K-E26) (returning the 9.5 watt models) provided a better light for us. The lighting at full brightness dispersed more evenly from this model and was more pleasant than the 9.5 watt unit at all levels of brightness. 3 more watts/fixture was negligible for savings and despite a lower CRI number, we both felt this light was more suited to our likes. When searching for an LED retrofit, consider purchasing one of each candidate, installing them (very simple) and deciding which one works best in your home. Then return the rejects and purchase the remaining product that worked best. Once again, I would not worry about whether a light is 9.5 watts or 12.5 watts. What's important is how that light enhances your room compared to the other. January 14, 2014
