Customer Reviews

Rated 2.1 out of 5 by 14 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Dims OK with correctly adjusted CFL dimmer. I have had 5 of these in a dining room fixture for only a day. I followed the instructions with the special CFL dimmer model TGCL-153PH-WH from Home Depot by switching it "On" with the slider all of the way down, then adjusting a small control on it to the lowest light level where the bulbs stay on and turn on when the switch is moved from off to on. Then I put the cover plate on the dimmer. I like the even spread of light in the room and almost no shadows. These are not harsh, bright white. Reading at the table is better than with the previous 5 60 watt incandescent bulbs and standard dimmer. I can't rate the quality accurately until they have been in use for a while. I hope they last. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Light was not warm, bulbs barely dimmed, requires CFL Dimmer as well. I was very disappointed with these bulbs. In an effort to conserve energy I purchased these relatively expensive bulbs as replacement for my incadescents. My fixture holds two bulbs, and only one was being replaced so I was able to compare my 60 watt incadescent with this new CFL. The light was much whiter from the CFL, not producing the warm golden hue I like at nighttime. After reading other reviews I now realize that I need to replace the dimmer as well to accomodate the CFL. So my two minute bulb switch has now resulted in an electrical project. Home Depot should alert and educate the consumer at the store. The bulb packaging says "Dimmable". Who knew that you need a special switch. April 18, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Dimmable, but only with a CFL dimmer This is what I learned after several trips to the store and a lot of online reading: Just because the bulb is CFL and dimmable, doesn't mean you now have a dimmable fixture. You also have to install a new CFL-compatible dimmer switch. If you're like me and had a fan/light combo switch, you're out of luck because no one currently makes one that is CFL-compatible. If you're just doing a simple light fixture, there are several available, but you have to make SURE it has the "spiral bulb" image on it, or otherwise says it's CFL-compatible. January 31, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Hardly Dims I used these bulbs with a dimmer switch compatible with dimmable florescent bulbs and when I tried to dim them, I could hardly notice any dimming at all. And when I took the dimmer switch down about half way, the light went OFF! So I tested the dimmer switch with conventional bulbs, and it worked just fine, so clearly the bulbs are not very dimmable at all !!!! February 12, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Nine years? Not even nine MONTHS Pros: - Uses less energy than comparable bulbs Cons: - As the other reviewers have mentioned, this bulb is NOT dimmable. - takes time to warm up; despite being "60W" equivalent, the room is a LOT darker than when we used 50W halogens - one bulb has burnt out already after less than 6 months. It claims 9 years of use at 3 hrs/ even if I used it 9 hours/day, it should last 3 years. The cost savings from the electricity isn't worth new bulbs every four months. March 29, 2011
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great bulb Contrary to what other reviewers have written, my experience with this bulb has been nothing but great. I have used this dimmable CFL in my garden light that is controlled by a photocell. Over a year has gone by and this CFL is performing flawlessly. No more burnt out incandescent bulbs, no more flickering non-dimmable CFLs. I have no complaints and since it comes with a warranty, you can always get it changed in the unlikely event it doesn't peform. September 16, 2011
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor quality. I purchased six of these EcoSmart 14-Watt spirals and six EcoSmart dimmable flood lamp type bulbs. After the first day, two spirals and two floods burned out. So much for saving money and trying to be "green." So far, the remaining eight are doing just fine. They fire-up quickly but they do not dim as well as incandescent bulbs. Stick with the major brands such as Philips/GE/Sylvania. June 29, 2011
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Nice light but not really "dimmable" Bought 6 of these for a new chandelier. Installed a dimmer switch that is designed to work with compact fluorescent bulbs that are dimmable. The bulbs were nice and bright and put off a pleasing tone (not that stark white that many compact fluorescents produce), but I can't say they were really dimmable like an incandescent would be. If the dimmer switch is all the way down and you turn on the power switch, the lights come on full-strength -- then dim. When you slide the dimmer down all the way while power is on, the bulbs dim and then some turn off while others stay lit. You have to slide the dimmer all the way up to get them all to re-light. It just seemed primitive and I could see it being embarrassing during a dinner party. These bulbs are about $8.75 each including tax, I was expecting MUCH better. We will return the bulbs and replace them with traditional incandescents for more straightforward operation. December 16, 2010
