Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Erin Slow to brighten; a blueish harsh color
I bought a dozen of these which I am now giving away. I don't like the bright white. It is a cool light with an almost blue tinge. I find the color harsh and unflattering and it makes my house feel institutional. The other reason I don't like these bulbs is that they are slow to brighten. I put one near a hall closet. When I turn on the light, I still can't see into the closet. I have to wait a few minutes and come back for the bulb to brighten enough that I can dig through the closet.

Have had these in the kitchen for over a year; have not had any problems. They do start out very dim and take a while to warm up, but that is just the way it is with cfl flood lights.
The ecosmart bright white bulbs are some of the only cfls on the market that aren't a harsh 6500k "daylight" color (only useful in work areas) or a sickly yellow 2700k "soft white" that attempts and fails to mimic an incandescent bulb. To me the 3500k seems to be the perfect color for living spaces.
Some people have noted that these cfls are dimmer than an equivalent incandescent- that would be correct, one would expect at least 800 lumens from a 65 watt bulb, not the 600 these have. That, however, seems to be the norm for cfls, if you really want to know how bright a bulb is just skip straight to lumens ouptut and ignore anything that says "equivalent".

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by RonnieS GREAT Lighting for a LOW Price!
We were torn between LED and CFL for the recessed lighting in our kitchen. We originally purchased the Phillips LED lights, but they were too big for the trim around the lights. So, I went back to Home Depot and spent about 30-45 minutes trying to make up my mind. I finally decided on these lights, and I'm glad I did!
These are bright white lights. That said, they are quite a bit more white than the yellow of the previous incandescents we had in the kitchen. We have 8 lights total in our kitchen and these really brighten it up. I like the whiteness of the lights. I think things look more crisp and natural than the yellowish tint we had before. I picked up four packages of these for under $36 and I think it was a great purchase. It does take a minute or two for them to warm up, but when they do, the light they give out is GREAT!

I hoped to replace 8 sixty-five watt incandescent flood lights with CFL flood bulbs and reduce my electricity cost. These bulbs didn't work for me.
I purchased 8 bulbs for the kitchen. 1 of these 8 did not work out of the package. I had to drive back to Home Depot and get a replacement. Once installed, I found a 20-30 second delay in bulbs achieving full brightness. The initial brightness was at best 50%. I believe the manufacturers need to work on the performance of these bulbs. Since LED initial cost is too expensive, I'll just stick with my electricity guzzlers.

Bought on 9/24/12 used less then 2000 hours and now 7/15/13 only about 1/4 as bright as new. Does take about 5 min. to warm up for full brightness. Great color, easy on the eyes, just does not last like they claim " 8000 Hours" not even close.

I put three of these bulbs in one of the cheapest 3-light ceiling fixtures HD sells for some inexpensive garage lighting. These bulbs work great and really light up the garage enough to do craft work. They take about 2 minutes to get up to full brightness, but they are cheap and they all appear pretty uniform to each other.

These lights take only a couple of seconds to warm up to full light output and the bright white color is perfect for the kitchen or other work surface.

These bulbs are quite bright and have a very white light. They take a few minutes to warm up and get to full brightness.
The reason I rated them with 2 stars is they are starting to fail after only 8 months of use in the kitchen. I've replaced all the bulbs normally used in the last month.
