Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not as good as the real Cree CR6 This product is based on the Cree CR6, but it's not as good. The trim ring isn't as nice, the light doesn't look as nice, and most disappointing is the "mid range dimming." It didn't realize what that means, but here's what it means: you can dim from full brightness to about 50% brightness, then it just turns off. The CR6 pretty much faces until it's barely visible and never turns off. The CR6 is slightly more extensive, but totally worth it. I have nearly 20 of them, and after buying these thinking they were the same, I'm taking them back. They are not. August 9, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by This is not the same as the original version It makes me very disappointed that Home Depot has replaced the older version of this light (ECO-575) with this one. The original is based on the Cree CR6-625L with TrueWhite® technology (using a combination of green and red LEDs and yielding CRI 90+). This version uses only yellow LEDs and has the designation of being "Full Definition". It is inferior to the original albeit slightly cheaper. I really wish EcoSmart/Home Depot would bring back the original. I considered it the best residential LED retrofit on the market at a reasonable price. The light output of this version is no better than buying cheap $6 LED A19 bulbs; I don't consider it worth it. May 13, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Recently Downgraded The previous version of this product had a CRI of 90. Now that is gone and they've introduced this one labeled as "builder's grade" with an 80 CRI. Bring back the old one! February 16, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazing quality and lighting output After going through the usual compact fluorescent lamps, in an effort to reduce energy consumption from our 1980's recessed cans with incandescent 45 watt lamps, we tried these new Cree LEDs - and were absolutely delighted. Amazing. They are light weight, especially when compared to earlier LED designs that were built for either ships in rough seas or hugely inefficient LEDs. They've got it figured out. As a kicker, the lighting output at full capacity is better than our previous 45 watt incandescent par lamps. We now run the dimmer up to only 85-90 percent. (So the claim that they replace 65 watt incandescent lamps is accurate.) We were also surprised at how our existing 450 watt dimmer worked well with the 7 lamps we replaced. The dimmer feature even operates linearly over the full path of the dimmer traverse. If these lamps last as long as they are expected to, they won't need to be replaced for 20 to 25 years. Incredible. Think of all the people employed to change out lamps alone (one large 40 acre plant, that I know of, employes 24 people in three shifts just to swap burned out lamps at heights of 50 to 70 feet.) The era of lamp replacement is coming quickly to an end. Even the 75 watt Cree replacement for our conventional 100 watt incandescent is excellent. If these lamps hold their life, we are talking about a small but regular change in our buying habits of replacing burned out lamps. Of course it took 30+ years. Cost is always a barrier, but given the life expectancy, and the big drop in LED costs, replacing all 7 of our lamps was just about the cost of our TV/Internet/Phone service for one month. Now we know. The problem isn't LED up-front costs but cable charges. That's the next frontier. Tell Cree. January 28, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I bought a bunch of them and they are amazing I replaced a bunch of incandescents in the house that we just purchased. These give a clean, high quality look to the old can lights. Visitors have asked for the part numbers, since they love how you don't see any pig tail from a CFL, and you don't see the inside of the can fixture lurking up behind the bulb. Very nicely made and easy to install. May 6, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good light, easy install We are happy with the light, its uncomplicated installation, and the look of the trim. My one complaint would be that it doesn't dim enough when using the dimmer switch. We read that the 575L dims more and found that to be true after buying some of them. We now have both installed in our basement. They look practically the same, but since we use a dimmer switch, I prefer the 575L. March 18, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great lights! I have installed 50 in a new home and a remodel. They are easy to install. They seal the can opening. The light is bright and even. 65 watts of light for ~10 watts power. While not inexpensive, they should last a long time. I have 32 in operation for 2.5 years and no problems or failure. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to install So far so good. We just put 12 into our old can lights. I hope that Home Depot will have them available again, soon. February 25, 2014
