What is the smallest flow rate that will turn on the heater of the 8kw unit? Can I get just a trickle of hot water if I want it?

Other manufacturers specify the turn on flow rate thresh hold. I cannot find this in the EcoSmart specs

Why isn't the neutral conductor used to power this water heater? I just installed the EcoSmart 8 KW water heater and was surprised to find power is returned to the breaker panel via the ground conductor rather than the white neutral conductor. This doesn't seem reasonable to me. The ground conductor in the 8-3 w/g leading to the junction box appears to be smaller gauge (approx #10) than either of the black or red ('hot') conductors or the white (neutral) conductor (each #8). Will the ground conductor (#10) handle the load?
Asked by: eScotto
works like a traditional water heater all works on 240v no 110 voltages.

We bought this tiny little unit for our family of five when we moved into a barndeminium next to our eventual new home. The space only has one bathroom with a sink and shower. Currently the heater is set at 115 degrees and for me its too hot in the shower and it will go up to at least 120. If you run both then the sink robs from the shower but so far that has not been a problem. Its working so well that I am actually going to add a kitchen sink to the space. Basically its excellent for a shower and if you only run one fixture at a time on hot then you won't have any problems. I am delighted with the purchase and frankly relieved.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best improvement since sliced bread For those into rv'ing, this heater system is prefect and saves you a bunch of money versus the ones at rv dealers. The down side is wiring, it takes some electric knowledge to install else wise it's pretty straight forward. Also, the absolute Greek speak on the flow rate is weird and slightly very unhelpful, but I'm taking hot showers in an area it says you can't take hot showers only able to use a faucet. So, don't let the flow rate discourage purchasing; instead, just think of what the activation flow rate is and it will get hot regardless. The activation flow rate for this system is .25 gpm. If you take a 6 gallon water heater go through it in 10 minutes... You have a minimum flow rate of .6 gpm. Therefore, the Greek is of no use and not needed. I'm satisfied I got this product and so will you when you install it for your home or rv.

The inlets and outlets are non-standard and there is nothing in the documents to indicate what type they are, and the fittings provided were not fully compatible. Their help line never answered the phone and never called back even though I left a detailed message as requested. Since I had to install it myself it voided the warranty.

Install one before and lasted about two years with hard water. Gona get a water softener to hopefully fix that issue. Defiantly unit is big enough for a shower and a bathroom sink.
