Spike, these panels take a stain very well. We built some desks for our kids with these, and they turned out beautiful.

JL, it probably depends on how close to the seam you are and how much pressure that area is going to receive. I actually cut across the seams into pieces about 1 1/2" thick, and they split at the seams very easily.
Otherwise, these are great panels that can save you a lot of time on projects that require large panels with a nice edge (e.g., small tabletops). They stain well, too. I built three Read More

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Workbench I was looking for a cost effective alternative to a butcher-block top for my home-made workbench. I was going to buy a solid core door but when I saw this in the store I was instantly sold. It looks great and is perfect for this occasional weekend warrior. September 28, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by GREAT PANELS TO WORK WITH I have bought and used these pine panel on a number of projects . The quality is great and easy to work with. . I was sorry to learn that Home Depot down sized their inventory. Every Home Depot I have been to only has 3/4 inch thick panel. They used to carry 1 1/8 inch but not stocking this thickness any longer. VERY DISAPOINTING May 11, 2015
