Can I cut two holes in it for a vessel sink bath countertop? Will the wood splinter or split?
Asked by: Sandy
It's pretty solid.. So if you go at a reasonable speed and use a sharp bit, it should be alright.

Can this be stained a darker color?

Asked by: clorge
It's unfinished wood, so I don't see why not. I'd practice on the underside first, though, to see how the stain looks / interacts with the wood.

Why is the 5ft buthcer block more that the 6ft one?

Asked by: Carol
The 72-inch Edsal costs more than the 60 inch. Perhaps you're looking at a different brand? I'd also check the width + thickness to see if that varies. If it does cost less, chances are the 72-inch is slimmer in one or both.

The description of the butcher block workbench top says assembly required. What is there to assemble?

Asked by: Dick
Nothing. Other than attaching it to a base. Although it does not include any pre-dilled holes or hardware for attaching. Probably just a throwaway line.

1.75 in. H x 60 in. W x 30 in. D Maple Butcher Block Workbench Top is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice craft desk top Came as advertised and shipped to store in just 3 days (way faster than the 2 week estimate). I made sure to open it at the store, as some people have had issues with serious damage, but mine looked great other than a ding along the side. Ding isn't very visible, and we figure it adds character. Makes a lovely craft desk top.

This shock resulted in a longitudinal split in the board which arrived to the customer in two long separate pieces. The glue failed in the split, and only part of the glued section had pieces of the other side adhered to it. Hard to say if it was a gluing defect or poor glue treatment after gluing. The wood was beautiful and smooth - but a re-glued bench top was not an option for us: the item was returned and Home Depot kindly picked it up at the customer location.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for workshop top I ordered this through Home Depot because I read that Amazon deliveries came a bit banged up. This was no exception. There were a few small dents and corner compression. Just fine for a work bench but not a kitchen counter. I am very happy with the workmanship. Oil it often. The 1 3/4 inch thickness is just fine. no warping. It came with a stringer for the legs, which I ordered separately.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product, poor shipping prep This is a solid and beautiful workbench. I do love it! It is the second one I had to order though. The first one I received was so damaged by shipping, that I had to return it. If you ship this item to the store, check it at the store! You would think that the manufacturer would package it better to protect it through shipment, but they don't.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Exactly what i wanted Solid, heavy, and beautiful. This was exactly what I was looking for. Made of maple, one side is obviously more knotty that the other so I faced that down. There were a few dings from shipping but nothing major.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value for the money. Needs a bit of finish work. I purchased this for use on our kitchen Island to replace an antique butcher block that was not longer suitable for food prep due to cracking and separation. It arrive at the local store in less than the estimated time so that was great. When I got in home I opened the box to find that it was incredibly warped. I was very frustrated and began reboxing for return when I found instructions on how to straighten a warped butcher block. I followed the instructions by applying mineral oil strategically to the concave side. Within a few days I had it very close to straight (not perfect but you would never know by looking at it). The quality of the finish is not the best either. It really needs properly sanded and finished. It appears the manufacturer uses wood filler at the joints that are not perfect to hide flaws, and they either do no sanding or do a substandard job of sanding after cause it is very noticeable. All in all you can not buy this size butcher block anywhere for even close to the money for this one. Given that, with a bit of extra effort this product will suit my needs nicely.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Butcher Block for Kitchen This was one of four pieces of Edsal butcher block we ordered in various sizes for a complete counter redo. It's wonderful and the kitchen looks amazing now. Spill something? Wipe it up. A possible stain? Sand lightly and oil again. I wanted to be sure the entire place was food safe so we used pure black walnut oil, but there are less expensive options.
