Answer:
You do not need bolts. They are designed to be put together in a few minutes using a rubber mallet. The parts sort of snap into place.

This particular unit doesn't use nuts and bolts, it uses pin in slot. If your unit needs nuts and bolts we do have nuts and bolts that will fit. Please bring in and upright and horizontal shelf arm so we can select the proper size for your unit

Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot. Our online prices are based on a national average set by our corporate office while the store prices are based regionally. Also, stores often times offer steeper discounts on products to make room for new inventory. For any other questions, please call us at HomeDepot.com Customer Service 800-430-3376.

They seem rather flimsy and I would suggest you get some plastic furniture casters to place under the corner posts, which make it easier to slide on smooth surfaces, and not result in bent corner posts. I have just recently installed 15 of these units in the garage and cellar in different configurations. Note that one cannot move these by picking up these shelves by the horizontal parts (beams and braces) or they will come apart. On a thick carpet the posts will sink into it, they will be immoveable. If you need extra parts, Yankee Supply has them, I also found them on Amazon for about $11 each. Good luck. Read Less

Either way you would need to tether these shelves to the wall, especially if you plan to put the tanks on the upper 2 shelfs. You can purchase tether devices that are used to prevent flatscreen TVs from falling off furniture / stands.

That's a tough question and you'll probably get various opinions. Bill --
That's a tough question and you'll probably get various opinions. I'll give you mine: There is a tipping hazard with any shelf unit where weight is placed higher on the unit and when you position it on a surface that isn't rock stable, like carpet. Assuming the tanks are on the two bottom shelves, you would probably be ok. Even so, depending upon the thickness of the carpet nap and the thickness and density of the padding under it, there will likely be a tendency for the shelf unit to rock a bit if it's touched. It would take some effort to push it over, but the water in the tanks could slosh. If you put the tanks on the two middle shelves, the center of gravity is that much higher which means greater risk. Whether that matters depends upon who is around the area and the likelihood of someone (or a pet) coming into contact with the shelf unit. Also, the motion that would be imparted to the water in the tanks from bumping the shelf would be greater.
One suggestion would be to remove the "carpet factor" by buying or making some small spiked feet to put under the legs of the shelf unit, so that the weight is transferred through the carpet to the subfloor. They used to make these to keep furniture from damaging carpet; I'm not sure if they're still made. A small piece of wood with nails or screws sticking through around the perimeter would accomplish the same thing, although you would want to find a good way to lock the shelf unit feet on top to ensure they never slid off. The commercial plastic versions had a recess in the top for furniture legs.
Good luck! Read Less

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 3.6 out of 5 by 141 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by extra pantry After assembling the rack I realized that the shelves were made of pressed wood. For what I'm stacking it with it will work out fine. I wouldn't recommend it for heavy mechanical greasy items. April 17, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Missing parts The package was supposed to contain 8 upright posts. It only contained 4. The package was unopened when I brought it home. I've learned the hard way NEVER to buy an opened package from Home Depot as parts will be missing with 99% certainty. Didn't matter this time. The package was sealed and parts were still missing. I shouldn't have been surprised as there is a separate insert with the instructions which gives you an number to call if any parts are missing. Obviously this happens enough for them to give you the Edsal customer service number ready to go. The shelf claims to be able to hold 2,000 pounds. I seriously doubt that as the shelves are very flimsy. Home depot needs to seriously reconsider using this company as a vendor. May 6, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by very good The shelves were difficult to put together with out some help. It does need two people. The great thing about them,, they are very sturdy and got hold very boxes and tools. There is definitely NO wiggling our bowing from weight. May 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I went back and bought another ...... Easy to assemble (shelves fit perfect). Sturdy for garage storage. May 10, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Terrible Product Home Depot - you owe it to your customers to sell products that are not defective. Employee at HD suggested this brand over the others. I purchased three of these and will now have to suffer with these - $150.00 in total for shelves with metal parts that were bent, warped "wood composite" shelves, plastic angles to put on the bottom don't stay on and don't get to close as it wouldn't take much for them to fall over. Problem with heavy DIY products: by the time you purchase them, get them to a location, beg someone to help you put them together - you just can't take them apart, put them in the boxes and bring them back. Home Depot - maybe Edsal made good products once upon a time, but not anymore. You should be making sure you are selling products that will keep customers, and not ones that will upset and disappoint them. April 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Steel shelving Outstanding product. We just got flooded in Prairie View, Tx. Many of the items were floating in our garage but not the shelves. April 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy and Sturdy Really easy to put together, parts line up like they're supposed to, well made April 5, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Be aware that modifications are needed Here's the trick to dealing with the couplers... once you tap them into place on the bottom rails, they tend to slide further down once you begin tapping the top rails into them. You will need to drill a hole through the bottom rail, via the hole already in the coupler, so that you can place a screw in there --- to keep it from continuing to slide down once you begin tapping the top rails into place. It's the only thing that will hold the couplers in place while you work on attaching the top rails. See attached photo. This must be done before attempting to attach the top rails! Because there's no way to remove the couplers if they go down too far. June 1, 2015
