This rack is very well engineered and easy to assemble. It stands square without any sway under weight. I would highly recommend it.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by DIY2016 Cheapened Over The Years
Compared to the units sold previously, the new ones seem to be not as well made -- the particle board is only 3/8 inch now compared to almost 1/2 inch previously, the particle board seems to have ink pressed into the surface to make it appear 'woodgrain', which only makes the shelf stink badly, and lastly, the paint is a not smooth enamel gray, but a grainy powder black -- my guess it will mar easily compared to the previous enamel. But, as some one else has stated, you can replace the supplied particle boards with 1/2 inch plywood and still have a sturdy, very functional shelving unit at a cost substantially less than most others.

I was a little worried after reading reviews about the difficulty of putting this together because of the couplers. Imagine my surprise when my 6 year old granddaughter and I put this together in about 12 minutes with no trouble whatsoever. My only reason for rating four star instead of five is the thickness of the shelves, but I understand the cost of shipping and the average use of the unit. I will replace two of my shelves with 3/4" plywood because I will be storing some heavy tools on those shelves. This is a good product and one of the easiest things I have ever put together in the last 40 years.

I have no complaints with this shelf. I hanged this in my garage. I bought a 16 gauge bracket about 2ft a side. bolted to the ceiling studs and so far so good. hopefully this helps out for later.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by AndyB I'm torn on this one
I am torn on this one. On the one hand I like the unit for it's design, strength and value for money, but on the other hand the design of the vertical connectors is horrible. Any design that calls for a hammer/mallet ands a screwdriver to bend things is clearly a poor design. I had similar problems to, it appears, a lot of other people when trying to attach the vertical connectors, and ended up bending a couple of uprights until I figured out you need to bend the brackets open a little with a screwdriver before they will go on. Once I learned the trick things went quickly, but like I say, *terrible* design on the vertical brackets spoil what is otherwise a good unit. Oh, and while it is not rocket science, there are no instructions!

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Snevets Still useful but quality dropping
Though the units look the same and maybe vary a little in price, this one is lower quality overall.
• Be sure the model you are purchasing has the "couplers" (small pieces that are essential to stability between top and bottom sections).
• The cheaper version does not come with the useful black plastic caps for the tops of the posts. These can save you from some nasty cuts / bad scratches from the open ends of the top posts.
• The metal seems to be of a thinner gauge, and the particle board shelves do not have the painted surface which, though smelly, does add a little to the durability of the surface and maybe reinforces the panels just a little.
I ordered the couplers from Edsal and they sent them free of charge.

The changes that have been made to the shelving construction made the assembly much easier than with the units purchased 12 years ago. The joint brackets helped considerably, and the wood-look gives a nice finish.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Oldgeezer Shipping company let us down
I have reordered this shelf. I would never attempt to put 4000 pounds as is touted, however for light garage storage they are more than adequate and very easy to assemble with hammer. They were damaged in shipping (I think the UPS driver probably just tossed them off the truck) Ms Luna at Edsal was quick to send out missing parts, however I am still waiting for the damaged particle board. Decent shelves for light storaget at an excellent price.
