What weight can it handle on the shelves

The shelves are rated for 400 lbs. when the weight is evenly distributed across the entire shelf. The weight if just on the particle board (a point load) would be far less. In order to hold 400 lbs. the weight must be distributed all the way to the edge of the steel. I hope this helps you with your project.
