Customer Questions & Answers

installation question

Hello, I want to hang a shelf/desk for a computer. The shelf/desk is made of quartz and is 18" deep, 34" wide, and 3/4" thick. The combined weight of the computer and the shelf is 70lbs. Can you please tell me if this bracket and bracket size is appropriate and what screws and/or anchors I should use? Can you recommend another bracket or bracket size?
Asked by: shannion
Bracket failure is not the problem Failure mode lies in the pullout value of your anchors. The upper most anchor receives the greater pullout stress. Size your anchors and embedded depth based upon the maximum load you expect to place upon the top plus the weight of the shelf. Divide this load by the number of brackets. Multiply the result times the width of shelf. Divide this by the length of bracket leg to be anchored. This result is the pullout value (lbs) at the top of each bracket. Size your anchors accordingly.

What spacing would you recommend to support a cantilevered counter top?

Asked by: Joe
Hi- It all depends on the type of granite, the thickness of granite, and how much cantilevered support you have. Usually the standard is 2-3. Thank you ! -Ekena Millwork

24 in. x 2 in. x 24 in. Stainless Steel Unfinished Metal Hamilton Bracket is rated 2.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Made of 1/4 inch steel - not that great for granite Although inexpensive the brackets are made of 1/4 inch steel and will bend without too much effort. You also have to paint them yourself.
