Does this mean other hoses have lead in them?

If this is being advertised as lead free, does that imply that other hoses have lead in them? There is no safe level of lead, which is why we don't put it in our gasoline and our paint, and elsewhere anymore. Why on earth would there be lead in garden hoses? Can anyone explain?
Asked by: Shelfie
It does not say anything about other hoses. Marketers put things on labels to help sell the product, such as a bag of rice with gluten free and no cholesterol on the label, of course this is true but it would not mean other companies offer rice including cholesterol or gluten. It is a sales pitch only. Very few hoses have lead in them in them, the fittings are crimped onto the ends and the hose is rubber and or vinyl, often with a fabric reinforcement, but there is no reason to add lead to a hose. Having said that it is possible some company did use lead in the finish, but it is highly unlikely in today's market.

Customer Reviews

Contractor Farm 3/4 in. Dia x 100 ft. Lead Free Water Hose is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 102.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Hose I've Found The Arizona heat is tough on garden hoses. I've been lucky to get three, maybe four years out of most commercial grade hoses before they inevitably start to crack, bubble under pressure or leak. After recently spraying the whole family sitting on the patio when I went to water the garden with my old hose, which popped a bubble in the middle and started spraying water everywhere, well, the quest was on for a new hose. This is as about as solid and tough a hose as I could find anywhere in 100 ft. length. I've been really impressed with it! I highly recommend opening it up and stretching it out in the sun for a few days before using it. Because it's coiled tightly in factory packaging, it initially had a tendency to kink. Now that it has stretched in the sun, it's softened a bit and lost most of the initial coil memory that was making it kink. Very happy with this product, although I feel the price point on it was a bit high. Thanks! Stuart

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Testing the waters I've had no luck with garden hoses claiming "no kinks". This is my 4th garden hose replacement in the last 8yrs. So far, this hose has been doing its part by not kinking. Hopefully, it will last longer than others, especially, during the extreme climate changes.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from leaking by the second use I usually buy "value" priced hoses and inevitably I am dissatisfied shortly thereafter with their quality and lack of performance, so this time I decided to buy a heavy duty, quality hose that should have lasted me a lifetime. What I got was a heavy hose that feels like the construction layers separated at each point where it was banded up for display causing constant kinking and worst of all it started leaking where the male adapter is crimped onto the body of the hose. The worst part is that it was only the second time I used it. I will be returning this hose today and start working my way back down into the cheaper hose least then if the hose is junk I can blame it on being cheap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good quality Previously purchased a cheaper water hose from discount store, all it does it kink up. Pay for what you get, water hose is not a place to skimp on price and quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great overall quality. I was tired of buying the so... Great overall quality. I was tired of buying the so called quality hoses only to have them kink and split after a few months of use. So far so good.
