Rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1 reviewer.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good selection for small bathroom in an old home The tub was purchased after a parent fell and broke their hip. The home is a 200 year old house, with only bath upstairs. The downstairs bathroom was small, without a bath. I needed to put in place a solution to provide a bath in the small bathroom within the time it took for hip surgery plus rehab (4 weeks). Looked at putting in a small shower, but parent's age and need to be helped during bathing (couldn't assist in a shower unless I wore a wet suit), as well as the limited time required to implement made that not seem a good solution. Putting in a larger walk-in tub was not an option due to limited space. Since parent would be using a walker, having enough open floor space in front of tub was a requirement. This tub arrived quickly (within 10 days) and plumber installed within 1.5 days. This tub is very well made, with plumbing, faucets and shower wand all high quality. I would recommend having a professional plumber install it. You'll need to cut holes for the faucets and grip handle in the fiberglass tub itself (you can put them on whichever side you like). The plumber will do this along with the installation of the drain and water feed. Our tub is used more as a sit down shower than a soaking tub. With it being free standing, it is possible to assist my parent from three sides (left, front, right). The front entry is especially helpful, though it does look like a washing machine in the room. This solution is much better than had I put in a shower. A couple of issues related to the tub's design included: there is a 10" step to get into it. An elderly person recovering from a broken hip really struggles to step up into it. I am planning to build a step or ramp in front to reduce the distance required to step up, but it would have been great if the manufacturer understood this need and put a pull out step underneath the door. One other small problem we deal with is that the drain is right where someone's foot would be while sitting in the tub. As a result, it is very easy for the user to step on and close the drain. For people who soak in the tub this may not be an issue, but for someone who uses the tub more as a sit down shower using the wand, having the drain accidentally pressed down can slow the process of bathing someone down since you can't open the door so they can exit the tub until all the water is drained out. I think a drain that doesn't pop up would have been a better solution and avoided this problem. . With that said, this tub it very much appreciated by the user and by me. It was selected, purchased, shipped and installed within 4 weeks (done the day before my parent returned from rehab). This is a very well manufactured and very high quality. It's expensive, but a great solution when you have very limited space and need to provide a bath. December 22, 2015
