I noticed that some people have said they used a 20 lb tank to hook up the unit... Can that safely be done? We don't have a propane or natural gas but would love to have a backup source of heat in emergencies.

Answer:
We have used a tank for our gas grill, however, we keep this in our garage. It kept our whole house warm when we brought it in during our last ice storm when there was no power. You can buy longer connector hoses for the tank and leave it outside your house. We have had ours for several years now. Wonderful product.

Answer:
The manufacturer recommends using a 100lb tank minimum so a 20lb tank may not work on this unit or any gas heater. It's also code in most states that the propane tank must be outside of the dwelling (house) with an external regulator.

There's many benefits to this unit. I'll list just some: It can be placed anywhere you have or can run a gas line...you don't need a fireplace. Old world charm of a cast iron stove. It's vent free...no need for a chimney or cutting through a wall to vent. It has a built-in thermostat so it adjusts the heat output based on the temp in the room. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by New vent free heater Emberglow makes a fine heater, 25,000 btu heats the whole house no blower needed. Shipped free to my home, only had to mount legs and called my plumber friend to install. Love to sit and watch the flame burn through the logs. Now if we lose electric to house and central heater blower we still have heat. Made my wife very happy as she is cold nature. Thermostat controled so shuts off when room is warm. Would recommend this highly. December 29, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Addition to the Patio The stove was easy to assemble and appears to be of good quality. It would be helpful if the appropriate hardware was included to connect the appliance to propane and/or natural gas. April 5, 2016

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by not very good. The smell is very bad. I can run a gas stove with no smell at all. January 12, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed i was very disappointed that the Stove no longer is equipped with the Blower Unit as it has been in the past. The price does not reflect the absence of the Blower Unit, and it is much less an effective Stove without it. January 7, 2016
