Answer:
The gas supply line must have a shut-off valve. It is a matter of turning on the valve and igniting the gas with a lighter or match by placing it under the logs. Once the logs are "burning", it is just a matter of adjusting the gas supply to achieve your desired fireplace setting/appearance.

Answer:
Yes the unit is a manual lit burner which requires match or "aim-n-flame" lighter. You can purchase a separate pilot kit for standing pilot operation (models CVS-303 or RVS-304). The RVS-304 is a pilot with remote control.

Answer:
Ah yes you do have to light it with a fireplace match, unless your gas connection has an automatic ignition. The base of the logs is the burner that is attached to the gas line. When you turn on the gasline [mine is one of the little cranks next to the fireplace], you simply light the fireplace match over the log set and it will ignite, and then you can adjust the flame size at your on/off crank.

For me, I'm chicken of all ignition--I light my gas grille only when I have steaks :) so I admit that I place the match over the log closest to the burner bar and let it go. Normal people would just hold it there.
Hope that helps! Read Less

Are you just getting the logs, or does this include the grate and vermiculite as shown in every photo?

What you see in the picture is what comes in the kit. It also includes a pan to hold the sand which disperses the gas to create a "field" so that the flames will disperses around the logs. It is very realistic and looks just like real logs burning. It has fooled all of our house guests who have seen it!

You get everything needed. Grate, burner, rock granules, glowing embers, standard gas connection materials. Vermiculite typically only comes in vent free log sets. It is sold as an accessory if you prefer on this vented set.

Answer:
Hi dhalism2,
These gas logs are best when used in a traditional, single facing firebox.
Unfortunately, this manufacturer does not make a gas log set for use in double-sided, or see through fireplaces.
Thank you for asking,

No. It is only for 1-sided fireplaces. Sure Heat does not currently offer a double-sided gas log set. My apologies.

There is a pan that holds the "embers" as well as some sand to create a "gas field" underneath the assesmbly. It is not visible in the illustration but it extends upward on the back side and is hidden by the log placement.
Possibly, if you were to buy extra logs to cover the back side of the log unit, it could work if you are up to the added investment.

Answer:
I believe they can as it would be the same situation except outside. However, you might want to find just the logs themselves since this is a kit that comes with all that is needed to set up a fireplace. You will end paying for extra pieces that you may not need for an outside set-up.

This set is not recommended to be exposed to outdoor elements. Mainly due to the burner components (not necessarily the logs).

This is our first log set after 30 years of burning wood in our fireplace. Why did we ever wait so long?! Very realistic and a great value. The embers glow naturally, and we are enjoying our fireplace every chilly night - the heat and ambience are perfect. The gas pipe that is included was not flexible enough for our needs, so we purchased a separate piece of flexible gas line that solved the problem.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice Price Nice log set and quality is average, but instructions show a shutoff valve in the parts list, however there is only an adapter from 1/2" pipe tread to the gas flared line that is included to hook up the log burner. The gas connection line is smooth aluminum pipe and would be very hard to bend into the shape necessary to hook up without kinking it. I am using it in a rental and decided I needed the added safety of a pilot light. They should update the instructions to show there is no shutoff valve included. I could have bought a valve and better flared gas line set and the safety pilot kit like others have suggested but why not take that added cost and just get a better log set. It should have came with what the instructions show in the parts list, so three stars instead of four.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderfully realistic ! I purchased this product hoping it would have a realistic look and I was not disappointed. It's even better then I expected and the glowing embers just add to the ambience. Everything you need is included in the package and installation was relatively easy. Instructions for proper placement of the logs are included and should be followed but you can tweak them a bit to get the desired effect. Excellent product and price!

The 18" logs fit perfect and glad I measured the fireplace dimensions. The ceramic logs look very real and product is shipped with crushed stone and embers to make it crackling sounds like a real fire. Pleased and will recommend to others.
