Answer:
It's not recommended by the manufacturer as it is not designed to withstand the elements. Also these logs/burner are designed to only be visible on one side (like a fireplace) and would not work in a round firepit (if that's your application).

Yes. You would adjust the flame height by using your gas key on the supply line to the fireplace.

Easy to hook up (for me) once you bend the hard line, fit everything in place, and tighten up all the fittings, this kit has everything you need (except Lava rock) to make it look nice and realistic. Instructions does not say to but you will need to do a "burn in" to set the logs. 20 minutes on, let cool down, 20 minutes again, let cool down, now the paint and logs are hardened and ready to enjoy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from They look great! The logs look great! Had mine shipped to me, they arrived well packaged and intact. They look very nice and put out a decent amount of heat, although I expected more. Thats fine though, we bought ours mainly for looks and for backup heat in the living room in case the power is should go out. I agree with other reviews that purchasing a ten-dollar flexible connecting hose will save considerable time. I was able to bend the included aluminum connecting hose to my liking, but its time consuming and hard to get exactly right. Buy one. Can't beat it for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Despite the "budget" price, this log set looks beautiful. Overall, this set was everything it promised to be; budget priced, easy installation, variable log shapes and placement possibilities, plenty of burning embers, gravel and a U-shaped dual burner. The dual burner creates flames over a greater area than a single tube burner, and is a feature which is not usually available on log sets less than the $200-$250 price range. All of the gas fittings and safety valves are good quality and easy to assemble. The only "budget" quality part was the gas connecting pipe that was supplied with the set. It was a 16" to "18 inch aluminum pipe and requires the purchaser to bend into several loops or coils in order to adjust its length to fit variable distances between the location of the gas line in your fireplace and the burner tube and pan. The trick here is to bend the tube without crimping or splitting it. The instructions to advise filling the tube with sand to keep it from crimping, however it does warn that the tube must be completely cleared of all sand or there is danger of residual sand particles clogging the shutoff valve which can cause a gas leak. Anyone with experience bending aluminum or copper pipes before will have no problem. I did not, and you cannot "practice" very much on the pipe provided as repeated bending will quickly cause the pipe to weaken and possibly crack. It took me about 25 minutes to bend the pipe into coils sufficiently small enough to be able to connect it to the burner tray when it was positioned roughly in the center of the fireplace. It required another 20 minutes to make small adjustments to the pipe so that the burner tray remained directly centered in the middle of the fire place and would lay flat on the floor of the firebox. I would advise a novice to spend the extra $10 and purchase a 12" galvanized steel flex line and use it instead of the provided aluminum pipe. It will significantly reduce your installation time, plus it will assure that you have a safe gas connection and can always adjust the position of the burner tube and fire pan with ease. The "gas pipe" issue not withstanding, this log set is a great buy, looks great. I recommend it to anyone who is on a budget, or simply does not want to pay $300 and up for a decent gas log set.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks Great! The box arrived in excellent condition & was packaged quite well. Everything we needed to fully convert our wood/gas fireplace to all gas was in that box. The directions were concise & easy to follow. The logs look totally natural & I love the fact that they can be rearranged for different looks. The embers also look natural. The pumice ash gives off a crackling sound that adds to the feel of an authentic wood fire! It gives off a good amount of heat & if we ever lose power, I'm certain our fireplace will heat up the living room to a comfortable temperature. I can foresee us using these logs for years to come!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks like the real thing. Everything was included. It was simple to install. The bending of the flexible tube was the only challenging task. The directions recommended filling the tube with sand to keep from kinking it. I didn't use sand, just took my time and bent a little at a time. I was impressed with the realistic flames. Since I already had a gas log lighter installed in the fireplace I use that valve to control the size of the flames and keep the valve that came with the set open all the way.
