Is everything included to have a fully functioning gas fireplace?

I have never dealt with a gas fireplace before. I have a 3-sided/enclosed glass, vented fireplace. There is a capped-off gas pipe coming from the fire box with a shutoff valve and then the key that adjusts gas level (I presume) is located on the wall of the fireplace. Is everything I need to get a fully functioning fireplace in this set? I read some things involving safety pilot lights, remote controls, vermiculate....I am not familiar with these things. Are they necessary for operation or nice add-ons? Thank you for the help!

Yes everything needed is included with this set.....Although, this set is not meant to be visible on 3 sides. The back of these logs are typically not painted / finished to be aesthetically pleasing. They are built for your typical (front view) fireplace. You should probably search for a "double-sided" gas log set for "see-thru" fireplaces. Since you stated that your fireplace is enclosed with glass, you should get a vented log set with a safety pilot. Most vented sets are considered to be "match-lit" which means you turn the gas on and hold a match to the burner to ignite. A safety pilot allows for a push button ignition. Remote controls are not needed but an add-on. Vermiculite is needed if your gas type is LP (liquid propane)...otherwise crushed shale or lava rocks are used and come with most sets. Glowing embers are also used on vented sets and come with most. Not really needed but provides a realistic burning fire ambiance. Some gas logs come with a short (10") gas supply line that hooks to your "capped-off" pipe. Depending on what comes with the log set you choose, you may need to purchase a longer supply line which can be found in any Home Depot or home improvement store.
I hope that helps.

Rated 3.7 out of 5 by 7 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product and Value We ordered the 10 log - 24" set, but only needed six logs for a very realistic fire. All 10 logs arrived without any breakage. ( which is surprising since the box was very torn up.) The grate and burning embers really add a lot to the look. The grate was high quality and heavy duty. The problem was in the supply line which is not bendable without a pipe bender. Had to special order a10"a flex line. Be aware that there will be a constant whooshing sound from the gas supply line connection whenever the fire is lit. Which we did not expect. Overall a good product and are very happy with the gas log and would highly recommend it. January 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great logs These logs were easy to install. The size is perfect. The flame looks realistic. We're happy with the purchase. January 13, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Happy with this log set Realistic set. Fairly easy installation. No problem with broken logs. Love the embers. Glad I ordered the next size down than measured as the logs would have been too large for firebox. Great product. January 5, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Looks nice, easy to install, great price I have a fireplace that's 38" wide in front, 27" wide in back, 23" deep, 28" high. I considered the 30" but, decided on the 24" as, it does fit nicely and there's room for a remote, if I want to add that. I don't have a remote currently. I had no gas line and, after a $2500 quote to have one added, I decided to do it myself. I'm pretty handy but, I'm no rocket scientist. If you have basic understanding of plumbing and safety, working with gas, running blk pipe lines and some basic code knowledge, you'll be fine. I have a $189 Bosch hammer drill and a 18" x 1" masonry bit to drill the hole through the FP brick. Then ran black pipe (galvanized where exposed outside) to my crawlspace, where I then connected to 1/2" CSST (great stuff), and back to the main gas line. I pressure tested at 10lbs for 10min ($10 pressure gauge from HD worked great). Installed logs and all is great. I paid twice as much, for another gas log set I installed before. This set looks nice though, not as nice as the $400 set I bought but, for < $200, this is a very nice log set, looks nice and operates nicely. I didn't use the flexible aluminum tube that comes with the logs but, instead, I bought a 36" flexible gas line as I just find it easier to work with. I don't have a remote just yet. It's no big deal to light the logs with one of those extended fireplace lighters but, I might order the remote, just out of curiosity. I'm not sure about having the pilot light constantly on and, you have to open the damper before lighting anyway so, why not just light manually. Anyway, overall, I bought the CSST, black pipe, fittings, gas logs and masonry bit all at HD. HD gives a 10% military discount too so, bring your ID ;-) December 13, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Broken Logs Logs look great but two were shipped broken. I kinda expected that after reading the previous reviews from other sets but I took a chance because this set looked better than what was in the stores. Do yourself a favor a purchase a flex hose for your connection to the gas line. I wouldn't use the one provided. Product has a very realistic look overall. I left out one of the broken logs and the other I used towards the back. I did not want to go through the trouble of returning being that the broken logs were two small ones and not the main logs of the set. December 10, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Beware: Size Is Incorrect and Misleading. WIll Not Fit in Your Fireplace. Advertised as a 24". Once assembled, the minimum installed width of the "split" front logs is 31". At first I thought they shipped the 30" version of the logs by mistake, so I ordered another unit through customer service and shipped this one back. When the new one arrived it was the same 31" set. In addition, several of the logs arrived broken, which appears common for these units. Had to ship that one back as well and ordered the 18" insert which is what you want if your fireplace opening is under 30". Also allow room for your gas line. The "bendable" flared gas line included is a joke. You will have to purchase an additional flexible gas line if you ever hope to install this yourself. Overall a very frustrating three months of back and forth because of an inaccurate product description and cheap hardware (the gas line). Descriptions for this product on Amazon are much more accurate about the space actually needed for installation. Check Amazon for a more accurate description before you order! March 4, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Broken but not destroyed We also got a set with two broken logs, but managed to stack and organize them so that it wasn't noticeable. Really great flame height, really realistic appearance. It runs a little bit loud (I'm not sure why, you can just hear it running). Looks more expensive installed than it is (we set andirons next to the grill to dress it up a little). Buy this if you want a good-looking gas fireplace without paying an arm and a leg.
