Answer:
@Neil, very helpful! I have a fireplace with a 36" opening that tapers to 24" at the rear. Sounds like this gas log set will work perfectly.
Thank you for taking the time to respond and help me out :-)

Answer:
On the 30" log set the steel log grate is 30" wide. Allowing 2 or 3" clearance on each side would suggest it would work well in a 34"-36" front width fireplace.

AK, I installed this 30" set in a fireplace with the following dimensions:
Front width 34"
Rear width 27"
Depth 21"
The grate that holds your logs will be 30" wide at the front, narrower at the rear.
Hope this helps.

Answer:
You would need to purchase a Safety Pilot Kit in order to use this (or any vented log set) with propane (LP) gas. Either model CVS-303 or RVS-304 (remote controlled).

Yes, there is a small amount of crackling sound which comes from the vermiculite granules which cover the burner.

Answer:
As with most vented log sets, they do produce slight crackling sound...although this typically fades over time. I've heard some people will lightly mist the rock granules prior to lighting the set to get more sound.

I have never heard that glass doors are required. I don't have them and my fireplace works greats. There is not a great deal of heat from the F.P. but enough to tell the difference.

This unit is a vented log set. It does not require fireplace doors but does require an open damper/flue. The heat produced is equal to or slightly greater than the heat of a real wood burning fireplace...which does mean that most of your heat goes up the chimney...but you still get the radiant heat. CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 26 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very real like, looks great I have a see thru fireplace. The pro's wanted $1200.00 for gas logs. I purchased these logs for a fraction of the price and they are beautiful, from both sides. I recommend these to anyone upgrading or installing a new gas burning fireplace. I am not easily pleased but the quality surpassed my expectations. February 10, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Looks great! These logs are great. We looked at fireplace logs 3X the price and went these. We haven't been disappointed. January 26, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by the logs are beautiful, work well The logs look very real and there are enough of them to make a real looking fire. My husband had to buy extra parts to hook it up to our gas, luckily he knew how. And we ran it a lot around Christmas, and our gas bill blew our shoes off.....so we have to figure out how much it costs and not just have it on all the time. Got a lot of compliments though. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by 30" Country Split Oak Gas Logs Just like other reviewers, our shipment arrived with broken logs. Replacements are ordered but I went ahead with the assembly & installation. It took a while, but I had almost no problems putting things together and hooking up to the gas line. Following instructions to fill the aluminum tube with sand, I was able to carefully bend the tube to fit my needs. To light the logs, we toss a paper match on the Vermiculite and crank on the gas. The fire looks very realistic, even using the broken logs. I'm satisfied with the quality, appearance, price, and would recommend this item. October 28, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Looks great and works great. Easy to set up. Very realistic. Excellent for the money. Have seen more expensive ones that didn't work this well. December 22, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Emberglow fireplace Package looked like it had been thrown off of an airplane. The contents looked like they had been repackaged and just tossed in the box. One of the logs was broken, but they are supposedly going to replace it. Once you get past all of that, the fireplace looks and burns nice. May be time to invest in a packaging engineer though..... Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very realistic logs at a great price We have owned a couple of other much higher priced sets at some of our previous homes and these have as much realism as I have seen. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality for about half the price of similar sets. They look just like unseasoned wood both when burning and just sitting there. At first, the glaze seemed a little shiny but after the first couple of fires they developed the proper sheen and became even more realistic. One log was broken when we got it but a quick call to Home Depot had a new one on the way at no charge. The rep looked at our order and quickly found there was an established procedure for identifying the log(s) that need to be replaced and the replacement gets shipped directly from the manufacturer. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best gas logs I've seen for the price. Had friends over the other night who hadn't seen our new house and they all did a double take and wondered if, we just had a gas starter, or if the logs were artificial. I shopped around and read reviews and by far these are as nice as logs costing 3 to 4 times more. November 3, 2015
