What is the footprint need for this set? I have 'kiwi' type fireplace that will accept an 18" front but tapers to a 14" rear at 12" deep. Will this work in that space?
Asked by: RHS
The question is whether the more narrow rear width is acceptable. If the base is a rectangle shaped pan it won't work I think.

Can you place a vent-free gas insert into a fireplace that has a vent that opens and closes? It has a screen front
Asked by: Pat
Hello Pat, Your question is pointing to vented gas log model LO18NG. This is a vented log set which must be installed in a fireplace with a working/open flue. Vent free log sets (SCVFR18N is 1 for example) can be installed in a "vented" or "vent free" fireplace but to get the most from a vent free log set, you'd want to close your damper/flue to retain the heat.

Can the emerglow 18in or 24 in ceramic logs be used outside in a fire pit?

I want to convert a fire pit with gas starter bar to a ceramic log fire pit so I don't have to store real wood.
Asked by: KP
It's not recommended by the manufacturer as it is not designed to withstand the elements. Also these logs/burner are designed to only be visible on one side (like a fireplace) and would not work in a round fire pit (if that's your application).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Natural looking gas fireplace Great product.. easy to install..Hookup pipe a little long you can carefully bend to fit better. One log was cracked, they are sending a replacement log. Looks like a real log burning fire unlike some gas logs. Everything you need is in the box. So mych easier than a wood burning fire and cleaner... Love this priduct.

It works well, very simple. It gets the job done ... I had a very expensive fireplace log set that died on me after about 8 years so I replaced it with this because my wife wanted it working by Christmas :) Not much to go wrong with this .

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor packing, missing part We received the ligs in a timely manner, but the logs were chipped and scratched. It was clear they were not well packed because the logs were all rubbing together. Also, the valve was missing to turn gas on and iff.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Poorly packed We like the product but the logs were not individually wrapped and were chipped up. The product was also missing a valve. It was just easier to turn chips to the back and get a valve than deal with returns.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It could be much easier The product is very good. The installation could be much easier if correct part is provided. The unit was installed in an existing gas fireplace - shutoff valve on the wall. Simple connection: supply pipe - flared fitting 1 - flex connector - flared fitting 2 - burner. This is should be a 30 minutes installation. However, flared fitting 1 is not provided. Instead, a valve with flared end was provided. Not comfortable of installing a valve inside the fireplace. Valve could leak cause by heat. Now have to look for flared fitting 1.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Price & Great Quality Works Great Just received this set via UPS. Shipping was on time and fast. No broken or missing parts. It took about 30 minutes to install in my existing fireplace that was set up for wood burning with a gas log lighter. I just took out the gas log lighter and bought one "pipe to flare" fitting for a couple of bucks at Home Depot to replace the included valve that came with the set. I have a valve already in the line that worked just fine. Followed the easy directions and it lit up and worked perfectly. DON'T waste your money on the more expensive ones at your local fireplace store. This one works great for what it was designed for. Very Pleased!!! :-)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Venting & pilot safety I am an EPA certified HVAC/R technician and have several things to add to these comments. Nat gas is lighter than air and will rise/vent out if able to, Propane is heavier than air and will not vent , it accumulates in a low spot and a 10% gas 90% air ratio is optimal for igniting! So the pilot safety requirement is 100% for propane fueled units. Nat gas logs have for decades existed without any pilot safety or or flakey ignitors. in fact for years many heaters pilot valve was a hand operated valve like a water valve! if the pilot was blown out, nothing stopped the gas from exiting the little pipe that was the pilot. This is how stove tops were as well. Since natural gas vents, its considered safer, and was able to be used without any pilot safety thermocouple or devices to prove a pilot flame exists. Make up air and venting are critical! and not mentioned much if at all here, the non vented logs are insane to use as described! a good way to see Jesus christ real soon!
