There is no external / separate bulb on a wire type thermostat some vent-less units have. I believe the thermostat is internal (thermocouple by the pilot). Room temperature is regulated by the control knob which keeps the heat constant and turns the flames on and off as required. The control knob has settings from low to high; once u get to a setting u like, make a note of it and set the knob there when Read More

A good cleaning should have done the trick. Maybe call the Customer Service Line at 800-229-5647. I'm sure they could recommend a few other options.

Do they have ones that have the gas hook up on the left side?

I do not want to run any kind of pipe or hose from the right to the left side just in case of a fire. I don't want to take any chances of a leek or broken pipe near the fire. I only want one with the gas hook up on the left side.

Answer:
Not to my knowledge...although running a flex line around the back of the unit is just as safe. There's no more connections than if it were on the same side.

Gas Supply

Our natural gas supply is located on the left edge of the fireplace as you are looking at it from the front. Which side of the logs is the gas connection (left, right or middle)? If on the right, is the stainless steel flexible gas piping sold with this unit long enough to make the connection?

Answer:
It is on the right. It comes with a 10" or 12" flex line but if your gas supply is on the left, you probably need to purchase a longer one. They are inexpensive and available at any hardware store (Home Depot).

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 236 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by First time log purchase This is the first set of gas logs I've purchased. I sold my house and installed these to avoid fixing a bad spot in my chimney. My house was already piped for gas so it only took about 15 mins to install and test them. They work good and look god for the price and since they are vent free you can really feel the heat come into the room quickly. April 28, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Had some issues The install for this gas log set was pretty simple but when I turned on the gas I noticed a gas smell. Upon checking I found the line going from the pressure regulator to the gas control valve was leaking. I removed the line to check for damage and found one of the ends was not made correctly and would of never stopped leaking. I remade a new line myself since the manufacturer told me it would take 4 to six weeks to get a replacement which is a joke. After installing the new line I reinstalled the gas logs and turned the gas back on. I checked it again and there were no more leaks in that area but since I was a little concerned about what I found I checked again and found a small leak on the pilot tube coming off the control valve. I was able to repair this as well but for someone that has little experience with gas appliances this could of been a major problem. I am not sure how this was able to pass inspection during assembly but the quality is defiantly lacking. October 27, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Be cautious Bought these logs and were stunned the price was so low. They were very easy to install, but do give off an odor when running which they say will subside in a few hours but ours didn't. The next afternoon I came home to an overwhelming gas smell. We called Atlanta Gas Light who found that one of the couplings wasn't fitted properly. He tried to tighten it and instead it bent the steel tubing. The product is ok, if you get one without defect but we don't recommend. Went to a higher priced model but definitely a better investment. No smell, everything built correctly. January 23, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great log set I have had the log set since 2012 and have been extremely happy with it. Works well and kicks out a lot of heat. This came in handy when we lost power and could warm up in the Family Room with 40000 btu's of heat. It gives a great ambiance as well to the Family Room...my wife loves it. It's not fancy with lots of features, but looks real enough and is a solid performer. My only complaint is the noise, but I think some of that is just physics. Overall, I would recommend this to anyone, especially at the price. February 8, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good product for the value Purchased 2 of these. Installation was a breeze. If there is something I would like to see it would be that the supply inlet be offered on either side. February 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good Value, Great Heat No Ashes This is the second one of these units I purchased, this one a gift.We are very happy with the now 2 year old unit in our home. These are not the quietest gas logs on the market, nor the highest BTU rated ones. However at this price point they are not loud and they give great heat. The only other down side to them is lighting them.My advise is use a fireplace lighter,it saves a lot of frustration and time! The igniter on the unit is not very reliable. That being said, once burning you will love these Vent free Gas Logs. The first few times they are used the coating on them gives off an odor,It would be best the first time they are used do it on a warmish day with windows open. I is a great product give em a try. January 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect logs for a decent price! We saved lots of money by buying these logs instead of getting an insert for the fireplace. The logs look great! I like how I don't have glass on my fireplace, just a screen. I definitely recommend this product! April 29, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Good value but has issues It is priced right and would consistently work. But there are issues: 1) The placement of the off/pilot/on switch and ignitor push button are on opposite sides of the unit. This makes its clumsy and a bit difficult to light the pilot as you need to hold the pilot in while you press the ignitor. 2) There is nothing provided to fasten the unit on the floor. There are no screw holes and not even a practical place to drill screw holes. The means units move around when you when you light the pilot Finally, 3) the flow of gas through the value is very noisy. The logs also give off a noxious odor during the initial use. I'm sure it would have stopped if I had let logs cure, but I returned before that due to the first three issues. December 8, 2015
