My 12-year-old logs thermal coupler died and to fix it I would have had to replace the pilot light and it together. That parts was around $90. To me it was not cost effective to do that for old undesirable looking logs. These logs have two burner and look much nicer than my previous set. I would recommend running the ceramic log pieces through the dish washer before use to get any chemicals off. Trust me, if you don't it stinks real bad and will set off fire alarms which is normal. In doing so, within a couple of hours the logs were scent neutral, about what my other ones were anyway. Hope this help.

I was replacing a set of logs in a house recently purchased that had poor control functions. I was looking for automatic on/off function without a battery operated remote. In the past, I've had both types of controls and I prefer the simplicity of a simple rheostat control that works in conjunction with a temperature sensor connected. With the battery powered remote, I had to replace the batteries in the firebox sensor and the remote each season and also sync them back together. They were Petersen logs and a pain in the neck. The rheostat type just worked all the time with no intervention needed. I will use these logs as a backup heat source to come on if my gas furnace loses electricity. Logs are set to come on automatically if temperature reaches about 62 degrees.

The first one I ordered did not work so I was kind of worried about reordering, but I reordered another one and that one works great. We have only had it for three weeks. We haven't used it a lot because its already warm where we live, but the few times we used it were what we expected. The only drawback is there is no mark on the dial to let you know what you are turning it to, so I had to call the manufacturer and find out where it was, which is 3 o'clock. Overall it seems to work great and was a great price.

I had read reviews and yes, my installer had some problems getting the pilot light to light at first. He messed with it, turned it upside down and right again, and voila! - it lit. I also did not like the odor that lasted way too long, but that is done now. The good thing is it quickly heats my small home when I am not in the mood to build a wood fire, and I love the temperature control so it regulates itself. Not fancy, but works well.

But like other products I've bought from Home Depot there is something broken. Its the first log in front that is cracked. I don't think they pack their merchandise to be sipped and if something is returned broken they must just ship it out to the next unlucky buyer. While I an disappointed, I am not going to take it all down and repack it to return. I'll just live with it this way!!!!!

We had the fire kit professionally installed and only use a few of the logs because of fireplace we have it in is cone shaped and the vent-free unit is a little tall for it. Other than the height, this product is great. It regulates itself well and produces a TON of heat. It shuts itself off when oxygen levels are depleted and starts itself right back up once they're back to normal. We live in an old house with lots of drafts and have found that those little air pockets are enough to keep it on a 20 minutes on, 15 minutes off cycle. If we crack open the door to our sunroom it tends to stay on considerably longer but at that point, it's heating benefits are lost to cold air coming in. Overall, great product if you don't want the hassle of venting out. Easy to light but the actual "ON" position isn't labeled and that bothers me, we might draw one on there just so we know where the low setting is.

The box was well packaged with the logs being cushioned with foam material. It comes with a gas line (female 1/2") to connect to a 1/2 male pipe. Direction are clear and easy to follow. Good product.
