We've owned the older model Emberglow, with this log configurationin the 18 inch size, for years. After my wife's allergies, have kicked - in again, I changed the wood burning grate, and hooked-up our Emberglow again . I purchased the vermiculite and glowing embers, to make the flame more realistic. As ours , did not come with a pan, to hold the gravel, vermiculite and embers, to raise them to the burner height, can you tell me if the manufacturer, offers one to add to this set ? While the new model looks great, and is reasonable, as our old one looks and works well, I'd hate to just discard it !!!

Answer:
We use a special refractory cement mixture to withstand heat. The logs are then dipped in a base coating and hand painted.

Answer:
Most all local codes require a shut off valve on your main line, if you have one installed it can cut off the gas. If you do not have a cutoff close to the unit I would suggest installing one. The unit itself has a pilot light setting, I leave it on all the time even if I'm away from home for a few days. There is also a off setting on the unit that turns off the pilot light.

Answer:
Hello Adam and thank you for your question. Yes, you can safely turn the valve to the "off" position which shuts down the pilot. Leave the valve in the "pilot" position to keep the pilot only lit.

We've had it on a few times and seems like we will enjoy the Oakwood logs. It will be used much after the weather changes this winter when the true test will be made. However at this point, we believe this was a good purchase and would reccommend it to others.

I purchased these to replace a set that were in our house when we bought it and they had a faulty regulator. We started looking and found these logs that looked nice and the reviews were not bad except some people had logs get broken in shipment. I purchased the logs and had intended to have a professional install them but I am a person with a little maintenance experience so I decided to give it a try. My gas line came in on the wrong side so I had to buy a longer flex supply line which is no big deal, a roll of thread tape for gas lines and a bottle of leak detector. The logs are in and the new log smell from the logs is gone and the thermostat is working well. The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is because the dial is plastic and not very sturdy and there were some dings which could have happened during shipping. They are worth the money. The rating would be a 4 1/2 but that option is not there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Deal, Quality Product These logs were purchased to replace a gas log insert for our wood burning fire place. They cost less then the part needed to repair our other unit. Now our fire place has the look of a real wood fireplace with the convenience of gas. They were easy to install and are of great quality.

Picked up at store, nothing seemed to be broken but the lava rock bag had busted during shipment and was a mess inside but everything other than that seemed to be intact so I took unit home. Today had gas company to come out and hook everything up. He said there was several things wrong. Pilot light was hard to light. Control dial was hard to turn. Was difficult to read setting. Gas would be come on when turned on, you could hear it but unit would not light so gas man immediately turned unit off. He tried several times with not good results. He said something is wrong and he would not advise keeping this unit.

Having the thermostatic control on a log set for $150 compensates for the sparseness of the logs. Sets with more elaborate logs (quantity and configuration) are considerably more expensive. The control knob is a bit vague and touchy in terms of setting a temp but also for putting back on pilot. There is no marking nor a clear "click" or lock-in position for putting back on pilot. It is very easy to go too far and turn unit off; has happened multiple times. The pilot light is pretty robust; much larger (and more heat) than other units I have owned.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good buy. Installed easily once I found all the right fittings. Standard "Universal connection" package does not have the correct fittings. Using the supplied pipe and an adapter purchased at a local hardware worked. Be patient when lighting for the first time takes a long time to purge the air from the lines Keep holding the Pilot knob in and until you hear the gas flowing. I held a lit match in front of the pilot until it started the first time After that, it starts easily using the start button. Thermostat works well, turning the gas on and off according to how high you set the heat.
