Customer Questions & Answers

Will the pilot light always stay on? I don't want it to. I'm looking for a millivolt pilot light.

We are getting a 24 inch set. This would be perfect but I want to basically leave the pilot light off unless I want to use the fireplace. Will this do that or only turn on the regular flames as desired?
Asked by: sg
With this unit the pilot flame is always on. The only way to turn it off is by shutting the gas supply off.

I have a Emberglow Model BVFM18NL and the pilot light will not stay lit. It has been in a box for 4 years and newly installed last week. Any suggestions maybe a new Thermocoupler?
Asked by: James
It is most likely the thermocouple wire connection. Follow the thermocouple wire from the pilot to the temperature switch. There are push-on connections there. Remove and replace the connection – which will scrape the terminals clean of any corrosion from the time in storage. Either that or at the back of the valve (follow the wire) there is a 5/16” wrench size nut. Loosen it and retighten it. Finger tight, then ¼ turn. Also ensure the wire is not scraped against any metal edge.

My wife and I are in our 80's and wanted a way to light it that was easier and safer than to bend down over it with the lighter. Because gas was already there it was rather easy install. Took about a couple of hours to bend pipe and put it together. ( tell people to fill little pipe with sand and plug both ends to bend it---no kinks. Remove plugs and sand completely.) We both love new system. Probably will have to replace batteries early because we're having to much fun playing with remote. As you can see you have look close to see system in the lava rocks.

This is a very handy improvement to almost any gas log set that only has a manual valve. The remote control is a great feature and, after over a month, everything still works perfect. A few tips- you may need a universal gas install kit with flexible metal pipe to install (also sold online by HomeDepot) and, you may need to figure out what fittings work best for you in attaching the valve to your log and your gas supply (spend some time in the brass and black pipe fittings section of Homedepot). Without these two considerations, you will likely find the valve puts your log far off center for your fireplace because the valve assembly itself is quite wide. Finally, spend a little time adjusting the pilot. Too big of a flame and it overheats the thermocouple and wastes gas. Too little and it might blow out or fail to maintain enough heat. Read the instructions carefully on making this adjustment and test all your joints for gas leaks.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not so great This is the second one I have had to order and it still shuts off unexpectedly now and then. I have to relight the pilot light every single time I light the fireplace. Not very happy with this product. I am considering returning it and going with a different brand.

By reading some of the other reviews that the pilot flame goes it, it seems that either you haven't adjusted the gas valve to the pilot correctly or you don't have enough gas pressure.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Gas valve Nice addition too any application. Wish the remotebox was shielded better from heat or had longer wires for relocation. no problem I extended them and located outside of the heated area near edge of mantel. Nice product otherwise.

The overall design is okay on this but I have had the installer out twice to try to fix the pilot light and it still won't stay on. I intend to contact the company to see if they have any solution to my problem.

It did not come with all the necessary adapters for me to install. I realize that you cannot account for every possible scenario. It would have been great if it included short flexible gas line connectors. I think I would have preferred an electronic igniter over a pilot light.
