Answer:
Hello Tom and thank you for the question. I'm not 100% certain if Home Depot has installers specifically for this type of install; But they have water heater and HVAC installers and most plumbers and HVAC guys can install gas lines. You may want to call your local store. Local gas companies can as well. I hope that helps.

Answer:
Hello Karen,
The short answer is...It can...although you would need to remove the remote control feature and add a timer switch. It may not be the most practical. What you need is a log set equipped with a Millivolt valve (which this has) but no remote feature. This allows for wiring to a wall switch or timer as you preferred. We don't currently offer that type of set but we will look into getting one

Answer:
Hello Richard and thank you for your question. Both models listed are identical in appearance. Model SCVFR18L is specific to Liquid Propane applications whereas model SCVFR18N is for Natural Gas applications...depending on the type of gas in your home.

We've been told that there are gas logs that operate if the electric goes out. Is there such a thing??

Answer:
Yes Ma'am. That's just one of the many benefits of gas logs. They do not require electricity to operate so you can still have a heat source if the power goes out.

We'll probably never go back to traditional wood fires. 2 Tips though... 1. The two items that Home Depot recommends you may want to purchase with this item aren't needed. The Burning Embers aren't compatable with vent-free gas logs, and the fireplace includes a gasline for hookup. So the additional gas connection kit isn't needed. We ended up returning both for refund at our local Home Depot. 2. You will want to make note of your serial # "before" you install it, as the number is on the back of the unit making it innexsesable after.

The only feature I didn't like in this deal was the remote control because it was just a on and off remote. I did however have the thermostatic remote from another set that also worked well with this log set. It has been operating without flaw and keeping us warm and cozy at the temperature we set the thermostat remote on.

However, the remote control does not work and when I called the manufacturer, they were extremely rude and refused to help. This is obviously not a reputable manufacturer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What a piece of junk Worst piece of junk I have ever gotten from Home Depot. Where to start? First the instructions that came with it were not for this product so that was a tad bit confusing. I finally figured out where the batteries went in the unit. Second the face plate covering the battery compartment/switch is too large so it extends beyond the bottom of the legs making the whole thing a little unstable. Third and final straw. Tried lighting the pilot, igniter didn't seem to be doing anything. Checked the wiring and it was not connected to anything. When it was built someone ripped the wire from the bottom of the igniter and just wrapped it around the rest of the wiring. Now I have to take it apart, box it up and take it back and find another gas log set, maybe Lowe's has one that works.

Installation was easy since it replaced a non-functioning burner of same brand. Used the old logs. Not as pretty as the new ones but no problems with the horrible smell from new logs for the first 10 hours. Installing the batteries in the receiver unit of the remote control system is very difficult. Had to remove 2 panels attached with 6 screws. The remote control transmitter is easy to use and battery replacement is easy too.

We have had it for about a month and didn't use it until it got cold this week. It has worked to our expectations. It only takes about 30 mins to raise the temp from 69 to 74. It looks beautiful. I love the remote- I can turn it on early in the morning without lugging logs.

Happy with appearance, but not exactly as pictured. works great, but wish I had ordered one with a thermostat, it puts out more heat than I wanted, even when set on low. It didn't come wit a regulator, which was a disappointment. Lucky I had one from my old set. So far, so good.
