Does the remote turn and turn off the fire with no other starting of the fire needed?
Asked by: mtsudean
Once the pilot is on, you can start and stop the fire with the remote. But you can't change the volume (higher, lower) with the remote - it's only an On/Off switch.

Can this set of logs be inserted in an existing wood fireplace?
Asked by: Clay
Yes, we did. Fireplace built in 1932, all brick. Our fireplace measures 28"w 26"h 18"d. We thought we'd have to get the smaller (18") size, but this 24" fits perfectly and looks awesome.

We first purchased a log set from Kozy World through Tru Value absolute garbage right out of the box! We ordered this at Home Depot it was a breeze to assemble and install and worked perfect from day one including the remote control. Its been in for almost a month now used countless times and not one problem. I would not hesitate to recommend this to any one but the best part is that it $70.00 less than Tru Value ! Excellent purchase!

It took a few days for the new "chemical" smell to burn off. But once the logs had been used a few days, the smell was mostly gone. The unit easily heats my small four-room + bath, 901 sq. ft home from the parlor fireplace in moderately cold weather (45-55 degrees outside). Weather has not gotten down into the 20s and teens yet, so still waiting for that happen. I would recommend this product. Also, I like the ignitor switch, instead of having to use matches. Nice feature.

They are advertised as Vent Free. However when we close the damper, the smoke detectors go crazy. I called TECH support and they said they will smell for 24 to 48 hours. I explained that it was not the smell that was the problem, it was the smoke detectors. The TECH told me "unplug them...." REALLY!

They have the worst customer service I have ever encountered. It can take an hour to get through to their parts department, and after 8 weeks they have still not shipped parts they had in inventory. They said that this was their busy season. Buy another manufacturer's products.

Adjustment screw fixed and cannot be adjusted. You could solder a pipe with this flame. Otherwise would have been a good unit.

Half of logs were either broken or cracked 2. Number of logs does not correspond to those listed, may be because half of them arrived in halves. 3. Manual is a nightmare: some figures are referenced in the text but absent, other mentioned without numbers, some numbered incorrectly Now good things: 1. The hardware was in good condition, well packaged. It was not so difficult to assemble the gas supply line and start burning. Remote does not seem to work, but probably I have to try harder. Otherwise, I do not have any comments so far. At the moment, the key problem is to replace the broken logs.

I guess the positive is that the fire has a really nice appearance. The negatives are the remote did finally work after loading and reloading the batteries 2 times and attempting to get the receiver and remote to communicate. The receive is mounted in the unit so that it keeps the feet from touching the floor. I was able to cut the mounting hole out and grind the switch plate enough to make it work. The logs don't stack as the instructions show. The back log isn't high enough for the others to contact it. The remote is a simple on off switch not temperature control. The last unit I had would shut down when it reached a certain temperature. This one burns at a reduce height which I guess is the way it is designed. Don't want to seem real picky, but the lo high switch seems to turn backward from it's markings. There is an arrow on the unit that when the lo or hi are at it, it is in the correct position. They also occasionally light at the jet where the gas goes into the burner. I had this same problem with my last unit so it maybe something that happens I'll have to study further. I have found a remote unit with temperature that will work with it for around $100. which I'm debating on doing the upgrade in the near future. My old unit also had a screen and the controls for the logs where below the firebox which had the advantage of you didn't have to move the screen to get to the controls or pilot light items.

But after making a run over there to pick it up, it wasn't in stock after all. I knew that I could order it and have it delivered to my home by December 27th, so I checked to see if I could order it there and pick it up at HD. Sure I could! But it would take more than a week longer to have it shipped to the store than to have it shipped to my house. I went home, ordered it online, and had it shipped to my house with free shipping. It arrived early, the day before Christmas, intact, with no missing or damaged parts. The only thing to improve on was that the unit comes with a rigid 1/4" gas tube about 18 " long to connect the unit to the gas line in the fire place. If your gas line is on the left side, as mine was, this makes this tube useless, since the connection on the unit is on the right side. I had to lay out an additional $18 to get a flexible gas connection tube to make the hook up. One improvement in design I would suggest is to put the piezo electric push button lighter somewhere on the front of the unit, rather than over on the far left side of the unit. The on/off and flame controls are on the right side of the unit's front panel-- visible and convenient. The instructions for this unit which say plainly that this unit cannot be field converted to burn propane/LP gas, nevertheless spent pages and pages of the instructions with details of installing an LP unit, rather than the natural gas unit I had purchased. This meant that one had to pay very close attention to them to know what was relevant and what wasn't. I even had to have a short conversation with a master plumber friend to clarify a point or two because of the differences between the two. If they would ship instructions that detailed the installation for only the natural gas unit with the natural gas sets, they would save a lot of paper and make the installation much easier. The remote control works great, but only turn the unit off and on-- it does not adjust the flame height. For the price, this unit was a bargain. Home Depot could improve its shipping to store practices, and the manufacturer could improve their instructions for the natural gas units, but this thing looks good, works well, and was had at a good price. If I get 7+ years use out of this one, it will have been a bargain.
