I have had one of these since they first came out that was made out of plastic. although it served me well for just average miscellaneous jobs. Now that I am more serious about my woodworking and my tools, I needed one that was all metal and more accurate. The price is a great value and it was so easy to just pickup.

My husband was building borders for out flower beds out of the landscape timbers we got at Home Depot. There were angles involved and he needed the square to make sure the cuts were precise. The square worked great, he will be using it again when he installs new windows in our garage

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Soul 12 IN. Combination Square
I used the 12 inches combination square to build my deck. It is great for squaring angles, finding the middle of the wood, leveling and so on. I could do more than what i listed. This tool is all in one. My father-in-law fell in love with it. I gave it to him because It couldn't find it anywhere in Indonesia (where he live). Great tool to have around. I love it.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by lilrabbit 12" size is a bit more convenient than 16" for most purposes.
This review is of the "true blue" Empire 12" combination square. This is good value for the price. If you need super accuracy, Home Depot also sells one by General that is of very good quality, but you'll want to keep that one locked up except when you need the super accuracy.
Use one of these for everyday stuff.
For work-a-day use in situations where it will get dropped or banged around on a jobsite or in a production shop situation, this will do the job nicely.
I bought the 16" size, and also 10 of the 12" size for my students to use. They stand up well to the use the kids give them and are still pretty accurate after 9 months of student use. They have been dropped but the mechanism has stayed square. The only tune up required is a quick pass with a file to clean up places where the dents interfere with laying the fence along the edge of a work piece.
I like the 16" ruler but it is awkward to keep in a nail pouch or the side pocket of my Carhartts. In general I keep a 12" in my apron pocket and leave the 16" on the bench.

The blade on this square was rough and difficult to move. I expected smooth motion.
I took it back for a refund.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by DR01 Tons of value for the price!
I wasn't planning on buying a set of these, but they caught my eye as I was walking through the tool aisle. After picking one up and examining the fit and finish, I was thoroughly impressed. The chamfered corners are a really nice touch, and the tool is very robust and feels solid in hand. I couldn't find a single thing wrong with the square, and when I saw the price, I was blown away. I was expecting to see double or triple the price for the quality I was holding.
Very well done with great attention to features and details. You're not going to find better than this for less than $10 bucks.
