It is what it says it is. Has good straight lines. Markings are easily visible. It is plastic and can handle a little abuse, but don't get crazy. (If you're looking for something that you can step on get a metal one.) Surprisingly light for its size and durability. It does exactly what I need it to.

Can't be beat for the price. I recently moved to an unfurnished place and decided to build much of my own furniture. This tool has been invaluable for marking lines for cross cuts, using as a saw guide for my jigsaw, and a handful of random applications in hobby projects. There are nicer speed squares to have with more features, but this baby will cover basic needs beautifully.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by LosRubios Ideal tool for uniformly spacing deck planks on a deck project
We remodeled our deck a while ago and I bought one of these so I could mark the deck planks before cutting them to length. It didn't take me long to realize that they're about 1/4" thick and have a decent sized 'lip' on one side that stops them falling between the planks when setting the planks in place. This makes this product ideal for spacing the deck planks. So off to Home Depot I went and bought a second one so I could use two to space out the really long 12-16' deck planks. They worked a treat and allowed me to both space the planks and also to mark and consistently drill the screw holes on the 4" and 6" planks for a nice uniform finish. If you're planning to put a deck down, do yourself a favor and buy a couple of these. Since the deck project we've done all manner of other woodworking projects including re-roofing and interior paneling and these are very handy to have around for setting right angles and 45 degree angles on woodwork and framing jobs.

It works fine, how could it not really work right. The only thing is, if you work in jobs like me with a lot going on, sooner than latter its going to get steped on and then its going to brake, easily! Also if you make a cut with it, you may cut into or cut off a sliver - wont happen with the metal ones. If you ever see any "ceramic" ones, they brake just as easily if not worse! =)

This square does everything I need it to do and it is a durable plastic that is nice and light. Also it is simple in its design which is always a good thing for me.

I bought this 10 in. square for a project I was doing a few years back. I thought I would give this low cost model a try and replace it when it broke. That was 4-5 years ago and it still works great. I've dropped it more times than I can count and it has sustained no damage at all.

I do contract work from time to time and this speed square is quite effective and reasonably price. However, if you are looking for something that is going to be able to handle the day to day rigors of heavy contract work I would recommend the aluminum version of this one.
