I purchased this item to do a major project in my kitchen. It has worked flawlessly. Strong, straight, and the markings are clean and crisp. Marking are established that orientation of the ruler does not matter. A solid purchase.

This is a good 6' aluminum ruler and straight edge. I have owned a similar 4' empire straight edge ruler for years, and never had any problems with that one.
This 6' ruler has a distance scale in inches from each end (so there is a 1" and a 71" number at either end), and is marked in easy-to-read black printing on light aluminum in 1/16" increments. The long edges are very slightly rounded to make it comfortable to handle, while the ends are a square cut with sharper edges. There is a 1/2" hole at one end so you can hang this from a nail or similar hook.
A few additional items to note: 1) The easy-to-read marks are printed on fairly thickly (I can feel them running my finger across them), but they are not engraved, so in theory they could wear off given sufficient use; 2) the scales are printed only on one side (the back has nothing on it); 3) this ruler is only marked in inches (so if you wanted metric for some reason, look for a different scale).

My straight edge arrived packed securely in its box and even though its 6 feet long it was undamaged. Great packing job. It was heavier, i.e., thicker than I expected and was pleasantly surprised. Its marking are large, thus easy to read in even dim light. The hole to hang it is sufficient to put over a large screw (which I usually use to hang my tools and equipment). The tooling on it is perfect. I have used an adjustable sheetrock t-square for years and it always seemed to be just a little short. With this great Empire tool (I love their levels as well), I am looking forward to my next project. Thanks Home Depot for carrying this in your stock.

This is good for what it is. The ruler/straight edge is painted and has painted markings, so with use, they are going to wear off. However, I will primarily use this for cutting straight edges on sheet materials such as paper, cloth, and plastic film which generally will be cut to oversize and trimmed later, so precision markings won't be that critical.
The extrusion is thick enough that I will not be worried that it will bend or kink. Stored carefully ( it was shipped in a heavy weight cardboard tube, and I will store it in the shipping packaged) it should remain straight and accurate for years.

Great product, right price. What more can you say about a 6 foot ruler?

A long time ago I bought a 4 ft ruler for cutting drywall and over the years it has been used for lots of layout work on numerous projects of all kind. Sometimes though it just was not long enough.
The extra two feet of length on this ruler is really useful for my latest project, and I am sure it will see lots of use in years ahead.
As soon as I got it, I tested it against the old ruler, and the two fit together with almost imperceptible gaps when held up against a light, certainly no more than 1/100 of an inch. The markings also matched at the same level of accuracy.

I outlined two 42" x 43" panels from a 4' x 8' x 1/2" sheet of plywood, with this ruler. The 1/8" x 2" x 6' ruler is high quality aluminum. Even for my 72-yr old eyes the 8th & 16th of an inch graduations were easy to read. It is a comfort knowing your line will be true. This product is for people that absolutely, positively need a reliable straight edge. It's an essential tool in my shop.

Most people probably won't have a need for a 6' straight edge, but when you do need it, it's invaluable.
We recently outfitted our media room and I had the extremely fun task of hanging up a 110" diagonal screen. I used a very large level (8 foot) to get the line straight, but try tracing that line along the length of the screen while maintaining the level. It's not the easiest thing in the world to do.
Enter a large straight edge like this. Mark off a foot or so at each end of the level while it's still level. Now, take this large straight edge and connect the lines. It's an aluminum ruler, so it is far lighter than a level.
Additionally, it can be used just as easily if you are using a laser level. Instead of trying to use a tape measure (not a good way to make straight lines), or measuring smaller portions with a smaller straight edge, you can do it all at once.
Finally, a straight edge of this size is good for measuring off sections of large wood (4'x8') with accuracy. Lightly clamp one side down (allow it to swivel a little), and move the other end around to the desired point. Clamp it down and draw your line. A two person job just became a one person job.
The quality is good, and it's light enough for individual use. Not everyone needs a straight edge this size, but if you do, the value and the results are highly recommended.
