Rated 5 out of 5 by Well worth the cost As the retired machinist already stated,... this is an excellent value. In fact I will freely parrot nearly all of what he posted. It's well made with clearly etched scales that won't wear off with use. Sadly it's no longer made in the USA; as the one shown in the home depot image. It also no longer comes with a storage pouch but I wouldn't use that anyway. A tool like this is used constantly by machinists that have to grind accurate edges on drill bits and lathe tooling. It belongs within quick reach.... Near your grinder. ;-) Bottom line: You can't go wrong with this product. It's worth 3 times the price! July 3, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Empire Stainless Steel Protractor I’m a retired machinist with over 24 years of job shop machine shop experience and this would be a very appropriate tool to use professionally. This type of steel protractor is manufactured by many tool companies and can cost as much as 4 or 5 times more than this one. However, you would struggle to find very much difference between this Empire version and say, a Starrett, or General tool supply version. The increments are stamped very clearly and precisely, and it has a 6-inch stainless steel arm. It can swing a full 180° and comes with a storage pouch. As a machinist, I can say that this is all you need when it comes to a steel protractor of this type. From here, if you needed something more accurate, you would move up to a sine bar or some other applicable tool that can cost quite a bit more. This type of protractor has many uses, and one of the good things about this design is that it can get in tight places and it can take some surprisingly rough handling, (though I don’t recommend it). I give it 5 stars for all of the above and its price as well. June 8, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by It feels solid not cheap. At first glance the engraving of the numbers are excellent , makes it easy to read. The brass knurl lock feels good and solid. May 20, 2014
