This laser level comes with a nice carrying/storage case. It requires 2 AA batteries (not included). Once the batteries are in and you switch it ON, right away it displays the temperature since the best leveling results can only be achieved within 32-122 degrees F through this unit. An instruction manual is provided with this level but it really does not offer much help for an average DIYer. I believe it assumes that you already know about using digital lasers levels. Its UNITS option provides three modes of readings i.e. %, Degree and inches/foot. When you are trying to achieve level with any of these three 3 modes, the LCD displays pencil shaped icons which can be different in sizes, I had no idea what those icons meant, neither the instructions manual talked about them, So I had to kind of struggle through it to learn what they could mean.
When using it horizontally, the bubble level and digital level give me the same readings but when using it vertically, bubble and digital display never tend to agree. Based on the limited help available through the instructions manual, I am not doing anything wrong. I have tried calibrating twice but again vertical leveling does not give same readings through bubble and digital. Facing the front of the level, the laser light streams out from the right side of the level, this is very helpful when you need to achieve proper grading in large areas or achieve a straight line over a distance. Enabling the Audio option beeps when you reach within 1 degree of level, a very nice feature for professionals.
I would not recommend it for general home use. If you are a professional who does not require any instruction, itâs a good product as long as bubble and digital readings do not conflict.

Rated 2 out of 5Â by PavementGuy LCD Digital Readout Problems
Bought two levels to measure pavement slope for work. Worked well the first two months, then the LCD digital readout was displaying partial digits and became unreadable. This happened again to the 2nd level. Then I got two replacements and both LCD readouts did not work, straight out of the box. Tried multiple sets of batteries, left it on, turned it off and on, tried different days and still the same result. 4 bad levels in a row. When called the manufacture, they had no explanation, just said to return to Home Depot. Now getting a little nervous about whether I want to continue to get replacements for this product.

This may not be what you would find most homeowners using to put up a deck or add a wall but if they had one of these it makes life so much easier. Since this level gives you a tone when level is reached you don't even need to look at it. You can use velcro straps to hold this to any board that needs to be level and when the tone sounds it can be nailed off. This frees both hands and lets you keep your eyes where they need to be. In short this level eliminates a lot of frustration when working alone.
I am older and normally need glasses to read but the large readout (the numerals are 5/8" tall) makes glasses optional. Even in bright sunlight the numerals are very easy to read.
I have used levels like this one to check contractors work after a pour of concrete on sidewalks and sidewalk ramps. Since this level will readout in degrees and slope among others, it makes construction inspection an easy task.
The on off and laser function buttons have a delay built in. This keeps the level and laser from being turned on or off accidentally. A nice feature when wearing gloves.
This is one fine instrument. The build quality is excellent, this level feels as good as it looks and works. The top and bottom have a milled finish that makes it easy to handle in wet weather. Even the bubbles are easy to read.
Really the only thing that its missing is a tapped hole in the bottom of the level to attach it to a tripod when using the laser function. Easy to work around but it would have been nice.
Even the included soft carrying case is nice. It has two handles, one long and one short. There is even a pocket inside to carry batteries and the instructions.
Overall I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a level that would last a lifetime.

I will preface this review by stating that prior to acquiring this digital laser level, I own several Empire bubble levels of varying size. I have always been impressed with the quality of Empireâs product offerings and this laser level is no exception. This level includes a protective nylon case with a handle and shoulder strap for travel and storage when not in use. The level is easy to use and is packed with features that anyone who utilizes a level on a frequent basis will truly appreciate. The aircraft aluminum heavy-duty construction feels very solid in hand and will not warp or twist, while also light-weight, with rubber bumpers on each end to absorb the occasional (inevitable) accidental drop on a hard surface, which can destroy the reliability of bubble levels. If this level should ever become unstable, it can be recalibrated to zero by laying it on a level/plumb surface and following the reset procedures provided in the detailed written instructions. The digital display is large and will orient itself, regardless of how you hold the level. If you are unable to see the display, thereâs an audible alarm setting that emits a series of beeps of increasing intensity until you achieve plumb/level, giving you a more accurate read than bubble levels which are close to level/plumb as the lines between the bubble typically arenât that tight, allowing for a small degree of error. The offset of the laser, which only emits from one side of the level, is 1-3/8-inches. A nice feature of this level is that the dot laser can act as a plumb bob, transferring measurement from top to bottom, as well as to project slope across distances exceeding the length of the level. The laser is bright, but can be difficult to spot in direct sunlight at a distance, so a pair of laser safety glasses is recommended for daytime use outdoors. Unlike a bubble level, this digital level has memory and a setting for percentage of grade, so you can zero a slope in one location and transfer that same angle of slope to another location. While this level has many positive features, it has a few negatives such as the display and function controls being only visible/accessible from one side of the level, so you do have to pay attention to direction. If you become proficient with the audible alarm function of this level, direction is irrelevant, otherwise youâll find yourself constantly having to flip the level over to see the display or access the button controls. For me, it seems as though Iâm always operating with less hands than I ideally need, so this can be frustrating. Also, the 2- âAAâ batteries required to power the level arenât included, which renders the level somewhat limited in its functionality until you install your own batteries. At this price point, batteries should be included, so I detracted a star from my overall rating. I would say this level is more geared towards the professional contractor, carpenter, remodeler, or the extreme DIYer. For an occasional build project, this level might be overkill in terms of its price, but the functionality of this level can be applied to both large and small jobs. If you are in the market for the finest digital laser level available to replace your bubble level, I highly recommend you consider the Empire model e100.48 Digital Laser Level.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by tnrls2079 Great level,
I am a land surveyor, and use this level for checking cross slopes for handicap ramps to meet ADA requirements.
This level is well made, and the right equipment for the professional. As stated above, it is probably overkill for the average homeowner, but for someone using it every day, it is a necessity.
My digital display stopped working, and Empire honored the warranty, even after the warranty period expired. Top notch outfit.
