I'm new at gardening - seed packet for lettuce says space 8" apart - this bed won't hold many plants at that rate. Do you ignore spacing requirements??

Answer:
It depends on how big you want the lettuce to grow. If you don't mind smaller heads of lettuce, you can space them closer, 4-6 inches.

Answer:
For some veg (like tomatoes), you want to be strict with spacing, but with lettuce you don't need to be quite so concerned. You can plant them closer together, then thin them as they get bigger and eat the tender leaves of the plants you've thinned.

Follow package instructions. You will be amazed how big your lettuce will grow. A side note: you will want to tie twine around the cover because the rubber band provided will break after a few days.

Thank you for the interest in our product. This does not come with the soil, dolomite, etc. These items are easily purchased at any lawn and garden section. Once in use, though, they do produce fantastic plants that grow big and very fruitful. Once again, thank you for your interest and enjoy the rest of the summer season.

No, you will have to purchase your desired type of soil and amendments. If you will be planning to grow plants that thrive with caging or support, you will also have to add those pieces. I recommend holding the cover on with rocks or office supply binder clips; the rubber band included might hold on for a couple of days...

No. It is the unit, wheels, inside grate and black plastic cover and rubber band. You purchase soil and all additives plus plants and/or seedlings. I would advise using twine or rope to tie the black plastic cover into place. The rubber band will break within a day or two.

City Pickers 24.5 in. x 20.5 in. Patio Raised Garden Bed Grow Box Kit with Watering System and Casters in Terra Cotta is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 448.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from These are going to give us a great garden this year. We are very pleased with this purchase. We are Seniors and last year we did not have a garden because it had become to hard for us. We did some research and found these on several different sites but at a much higher price than Home Depot. We purchased 3 of them. We had another large planter and after seeing these made some changes and now we have four large beds. Our son built them a platform to sit in at waist level. No more bending over to weed. It is great. (pictures attached) We bought our plants and four large bag of potting soil and things are coming along. Shipping was fast, they came in 5 days. Yes we would recommend these for anyone but especially for Seniors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love them! I love them. I bought 3. I put a little rod iron stand in the back that helps support, and attached a grow light. Used indoor and out. A little notice about thr drain holes on the side would have been nice, plus I wish the wheels snapped in. Overall a great product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Setup for a Patio Garden I bought two of these garden beds to grow tomatoes and cucumbers on my patio. Assembly was simple and filling with potting mix was easy enough. It comes with very specific instructions for buying potting mix, garden lime, and fertilizer. I had to search very carefully to find the recommended potting mix - only one of about a dozen types I looked at had the correct ingredients (primary constituent sphagnum peat and/or coir). I followed the very detailed instructions to add the potting mix, garden lime, and fertilizer to the grow boxes, covered them with the included plastic mulch cover, and planted my crop. It is important to use enough potting mix to form a 2" mound above the sides of the box as directed. This will keep rain water from pooling on the plastic mulch cover. In my opinion the casters are only marginally able to handle the weight of the completed garden bed. I broke one rolling against a joint in my patio pavers. I added four segments of 18" long segments of border fencing to form a 12" to 18" high fence box to support my plants as they grow. So far my plants are doing great. Just water DAILY.

The picture of tomatoes planted with lettuce does not fit with the instructions given - they cannot be planted together according to the enclosed planting instructions. The rubber bands provided to hold the undersized black plastic sheet in place didn't even last 1 week! The instructions on placement of the fill tube are non-specific as to which corner of the box to use (not the grid) resulting in my incorrectly placing the fill tube on one of the boxes, and inadequate filling of the reservoir. I like the casters on the box - it makes it easy to rotate the box as the plants grow.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Wheels aren't sturdy with weight I bought this a couple summers ago and the wheel broke off the first time I tried moving it over my patio. I would say put it where you want it, fill it and don't move it which defeats the purpose of the wheels. Nice place for garden herbs.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not as functional as expected Unfortunately, I have $25 tomato plants! The set up of the "system" is a bit tricky- and expensive. The rubber banding that holds down the plastic topping broke after two weeks of putting them in place. And that is without touching them. Only one plant fits in each container. Couldn't figure out how to stake the plants since the system has the plastic cover, so they lay down- not the best for tomatoes. Couldn't figure out how to plant seeds and still use the plastic cover. Directions could be stated better. On a positive note, they are easy to water.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for my tomatoes This was simple to assemble. I didn't use the mulch cover, since I was transplanting grown tomato plants. I simply used cedar mulch. The tomatoes did well and it was easy to water. I had to water it twice a day in the Kansas summer. It's rather heavy for me to wheel around, but I am handicapped. I like it so much that I am considering purchasing a second one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great container garden and great customer support I have bought three of these 'City Pickers' gardening system. They work great and we're getting pretty good yields of vegetables out of them. The second one we bought had two damaged wheels. (Actually, one wheel had a chip in it; and the second wheel broke while I was trying to force it into it's socket). I called the company and spoke to the receptionist. She said to send her an email with a mailing address and if possible a picture of the damaged wheels. She would take over to their customer support folks and get new wheels sent to me. Three days later I had my wheels. Attached is a picture of two of the gardens. One garden was planted in November (left); the other garden was planted in late December. (I live in Glendale AZ). As you can see, they work great!
