What are the optimum sunlight conditions for this shrub?

3 out of the 4 shrubs keep wilting at the end of the day. One of them gets full sun from 10 am - 6 pm and it's doing well. I've been watering the other three wilted ones in the evening and they perk back up but by the next afternoon they're wilting again. They get sun from 12 noon - 6 pm, and there was a sign at Home Depot with these shrubs that said they need 6 full hours of sunlight. If someone has advice on how I can get these to grow, I would appreciate it.
Asked by: miya62
Miya, The Endless Summer Hydrangeas can handle up to 6 hours of sun per day, but ideally they would receive the sun in the morning hours. The afternoon sun is drier and hotter than morning sun which can cause the wilting you described. As your plant gets more established with deeper roots this will not happen as badly, but you will need to water your plants as needed as you see them wilting. Other options would be to plant a taller plant that could provide some additional shade for your plants, or you can dig them up and relocated them to an area that will receive morning sun instead of afternoon sun.

Can I keep the hydrangea in a pot?

Just wondering if they have to be put into the ground or if they can flourish in a pot? Could I keep them in the plastic container I purchased them in instead of emptying the container and planting in a pot?
Asked by: Mkezios
These hydrangea grow well in containers and in the ground. I would recommend however getting a larger pot (3+ gallon size) to plant it in so it has space to grow. If you leave your plant in the container it arrived in for a long period of time the roots may get root bound

1 Gal. The Original Hydrangea is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely Blooms All Summer I've really enjoyed growing the hydrangeas because they bloom nonstop all summer long and look so pretty. These two were planted in earlier this season and two tablespoons garden lime has been given to each plant probably two or three times to encourage pink blossoms. A few of the stems are supported with small to medium sized stakes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful plants I was worried when I received them because of many blackish brown spots on the leaves but it was explained to me that this was common from too much water. The plants were shipped from a flood area. They are growing and blooming like crazy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Plants! Very healthy. The plant already had a few blooms, and there were more coming out. I can't wait for the rest of the blooms come out. This is going to be perfect for my garden in the shade. Highly Recommend!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Of the 15 hydrangeas that I ordered, 6 arrived in very poor condition due to inadequate packaging and poor handling Endless Summer hydrangeas are great - no complaints about the plant itself. I ordered 15 1-gallon pots, thinking that a larger pot would mean stronger plants. The hydrangeas were much smaller than what I expected and they have been struggling for the past 2 weeks - mostly because of the wind I'm assuming) even though the weather has been mild.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from thanks for the dead plant it was trimmed down so far it was dead by the time it arrived. I have done everything i can to bring it back to life over the last month to no avail. What a waste of money. I will never purchase plants from homedepot again, especially if they are to be delivered.
