Answer:
I don't trust the date on the package or the batteries themselves. Get a cheap battery tester from the shack ($5) and keep it junk drawer with the batteries. Always test the battery you are about to use. It saves the hassle of swapping out until you find a set that works.

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 517 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 33604 I have always thought that Max Alkaline double A EveryReady batteries lasted much longer than other brands I had tried in the past. I keep buying these as they work great in my camera.I would recommend the Max AA 36 pack batteries ,as it is always good to have more on hand for future use. One never knows when you might be getting gifts that require a AA batteries. I am always taking pictures of outdoor nature, so I try to keep these batteries in the house where I know if I need to take more pictures I have them on hand . October 11, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Energizer Batteries These are batteries. How is one suppose to rate them. I don't keep track of when I install batteries or when they fail. Therefore, it is very hard to rate. The one reason I bought Energizer Batteries is that I have had problem with Duracell Batteries corroding and actually destroying an Apple Trackpad. It seems that the quality of Duracell Batteries has diminished in recent years. I, therefore, will never buy Duracell Batteries again. I have not had the corrosion problem in the past with Energizer Batteries and only time will tell about the batteries I just bought. October 11, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by good lasting time lasts longer than other batteries previously used. June 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best battery deal for all electronic needs With a 10 yr shelf life, it doesn't make any sense to buy fewer for more money. This is one of the prices that I have found without paying member fees or shipping. Good deal and suppoerts local brick and mortar October 28, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by they are batteries October 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I've been using generic batteries thinking all batteries are the same but these energizer batteries definitely last longer!!!! October 25, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to open product if you are proficient with a miter saw, the batteries are just plain AA like any other. 3 start rating is based on poor packaging, not the product itself. October 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I have always had better luck with energizers vs duracel!! October 25, 2016
