Customer Questions & Answers

How do you clean it with no ash drawer?

The product specs say no ash drawer is included. Doesn't that make it more difficult to keep it cleaned out?
Asked by: Parisa
You have to wait until the fire dies down somewhat and shovel out the ashes and coals.

Customer Reviews

1,200 sq. ft. Wood-Burning Stove is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 80.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy so far! I looked everywhere for a small, low-clearance, clean-lined woodstove for my small living room, and was thrilled when I came across this one. I'm a complete amateur when it comes to stoves and fire building, so the first few fires took a bit of experimentation based on tips from other reviewers, but now I've got it figured out. The fire burns hot and clean and puts out a ton of heat, almost too much for my 850 square foot house. The included fan is pretty unsightly sticking out the back of the unit, and quite loud, even on the low setting, but does a nice job of moving the warm air around. I plan on replacing it with an Ecofan soon. Overall, a great buy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Englander 17 I am a first time wood stove user. I have had this stove for 2 weeks and I can tell you I have had nothing but good experiences so far. I will say this... I'm glad I got a smaller stove because the more I play with this stove I am realizing that you need to maintain a proper temp to maintain a proper burn. A larger at lower temp...just in case I would ever need the heat...WOULD NOT WORK! This stove is heating my 1800 sq ft main floor and is doing a killer job. TONS OF HEAT! The 3 break in periods was easily accomplished with a quality "stove thermometer" and now it's a full go. I bought a magnetic stove pipe thermometer and is not setup for the proper burn temp of the stove. Buy a quality "inferno magnet stove thermometer". Also this stove requires well seasoned hardwoods. Which is fantastic because to prevent creosote fires I understand you always want to burn well seasoned hardwoods. I will recommend this stove to as many people that ask. Quality, well built, easy to clean, large viewing glass, great secondary burn, absolutely no smoke exiting the stack at proper burn temperature and the most approved clearance to combustibles I have found! Not to mention if you buy by Dec 2016 a $300 dollar for dollar tax credit! A+ product......."SO FAR

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Puts out some heat! This little thing is awesome. When it's cranking the flames along with the secondary burn are gorgeous. I'm new to wood stoves so I'm surely not the most efficient fire tender, but I can keep one log burning for about am hour before reloading. If you are a DIYer like me and new to wood stoves you might not know what to purchase for the install. Here is a cheat sheet for a through-the-roof cathedral ceiling installation and it's all available at HD: 6" DVL adapter to connect the stove. 6" DVL doublewall black stove pipe. Enough lengths to reach your ceiling with at least one telescoping section. 6" DVL chimney adapter with trim. 6" Duraplus cathedral ceiling kit 6" duraplus ss pipe to reach min 3' anove roof. Happy burning!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is one great little stove !!! The associates at my Home Depot had the stove loaded up on my truck in just a few minutes and I was on my way. The next day I had it installed and had it fired up. It was a 30 degree day and the inside temperature in my 1300 sq. ft. home got up to 80 degrees. The stove looks as great as it works. The craftsmanship of the stove is perfect. It has closer rear of stove to wall clearances than any stove I've found, which was really important to my installation. I highly recommend this stove.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great stove! We bought this stove for our small cabin at 7,800 feet. Our cabin is only approx. 650 sq. ft., but has tall, cathedral ceiling. We installed ourselves and followed instructions for test burns. This stove works great! Heats our cabin up quickly, and continues to give out good heat as we allow the fire to burn down. The blower also works great. We are off-grid with solar power, but only need to use the blower for a few minutes just to distribute the heat throughout the cabin evenly. One fire in the morning and one in the evening is all we need to stay comfortable! Looks and works great! Would highly recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lot of heat for the price Have been heating with this unit for almost 2 weeks. Stove works well, drafts fairly well; (crack door at first). For the first time in the winter we're heating the entire house; 1100 sq. ft. (instead of closing off spare rooms). Had to open a window when we hit 78* the other night. This product works as advertised. I didn't factor in clearance to attach the included fan, but I don't think we'll need it. Stove is heating house well down into the single digits at night. This stove is the best fit for the location we had to put it in. At only 12 1/2" deep it doesn't protrude into hallway at all. Very pleased with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We love our stove This is a smaller stove for a smaller space - so this is a space-saving stove that outperforms itself to heat our 1250 sq foot home exceptionally. Enjoy the ambiance from the larger window. Like the simple, almost euro-stove type lines. We crack the door for a bit to get it started, and w/i half an hour it is cooking! We are using this stove without the fan. Ordered silver-colored handles from Englander for a small price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good little stove with one caveat This is our second winter with this stove. We bought it because we wanted a more clean-lined, modern looking stove that didn't cost a small fortune to fit our home design. This stove fit the bill and looks great (see photo) and is 1/5 to 1/10 the price of other 'modern' stoves. It is our primary heat source for a well-insulated 1800 sq ft home and works great, keeping the house toasty warm even down into single digit temps. A couple of things to keep in mind especially for the first time stove buyer: 1. This stove doesn't have an ash drawer. that means that you have to stop feeding it and let the fire die down to clear the ash using a small shovel. For us this has to be done every day in prime heating season when we're keeping the fire going all day. If you're wanting to keep the stove going continuously, you might want to look at Englander's 1800 sq ft model which has an ash drawer. As I write this it's on sale for less than the price of this stove. 2. Read the other reviews that talk about the correct placement of the baffles at the top of the stove. I don't think Englander did a great job designing the brackets for the top baffle and it's easy for it to slip out of place, interfering with correct airflow. In my judgment the manual doesn't do a good job of explaining it, i had to call Englander to get them to walk me through it. They were very knowledgeable and helpful when I called. All in all, a great stove for the money and a great look for a modern home.
