Customer Questions & Answers

if i hook up a wall thermostat to this stove and it reaches a temperature will the stove shut off

Asked by: instigator
This stove is unique in that it has 2 modes available with a thermostat. 1) As suggested, it will turn on and off as the thermostat comes on and off. This takes time for the stove to start up and shut down. 2) To minimize temperature swings and premature wear of the igniter this stove can be set to simply drop to the low setting when the thermostat goes off and a higher setting when the thermostat goes on.

what happens is power goes out, will smoke go out or build up in the room

what happens is power goes out, will smoke go out or build up in the room
Asked by: Jimbo
See page 10 of the install manual. A little smoke may get in but not enough to cause concern, "We require a minimum vertical rise of 36 in. (3 ft.) of pipe to create natural draft in the system, which helps evacuate smoke from the stove in the event of a power failure or combustion blower failure. "

Purchased this pellet stove about 2 months ago and this this is a great stove for the money. Do not blame this stove for lack of cleanings or using cheap inferior pellets. I have found that the stove does need to have the burn pot cleaned every couple of days and the glass as well. I have experimented with 4 or 5 brands and found that using high quality premium pellets is well worth it. Went from 1/2" of ash per day to no significant ash build-up after 5 days! The glass does get dirty quickly and requires nearly daily cleaning. I heat nearly 2000 sq ft easily with this stove eliminating the need for my electric baseboard heating system. Pellet stoves are not furnaces and all require some maintenance and upkeep. If you are expecting to simply load pellets and not upkeep it, a pellet stove is not for you no matter what the brand or model.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 25-EP Great looking stove and great heat output. I'm heating a 1500 SQ FT 2 story home to a comfortable 70 degrees. I also like to point out the ash pan is not a issue. I can burn through more than 5 40lb bags of pellets without even having to empty it out. Just have to keep in mind, the stove has to be maintained. I'd rather spend a bit of my time keeping up with the stove instead of paying for my high gas/oil bill. I would recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Stove We purchased this stove over a year ago. We have had no problems at all. Heats our home-2300 square feet on heat setting 3 any higher and it will run u out of the house. We also run a thermostat with stove programed on hi-lo. Very easy to clean. One note make sure you burn premium pellets it makes a huge differance. No off brand pellets tried them and huge reduction in heat output and increase in waste material. This is a great stove went from $500 a month in propane to 150+- in pellets and elec per month.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Stove for the price ! We purchased this stove last spring rather than pay $4 a gallon for 250 gallons of heating fuel oil. We made the decision based on a personal recommendation by another Home Depot customer who happened to be at the store when we were looking at pellet stoves. Naturally a $5000 Harmon stove is a better stove, but we rate this stove 5 stars because we feel it is a great value for the price. Our home is a 1 1/2 story 32x42 open loft cape. It heats adequately but is a little slow to recover on very cold days, as we leave it on low when we are not home during the day, but the ceiling fan helps there. We opened a Home Depot account, saved a few bucks and was able to get the stove, chimney and 1/2 ton of pellets for about $2000 with 1 year interest free. We installed it in 1 day and fired it up that next night. Yes it does require daily cleaning, but it only uses about 1/2 the pellets of a larger stove and is less than 1/2 the purchase price. (Sometimes we push 2 days with a high quality hardwood pellet.) In the morning upon awaking, we turn it off, wait about 20 minutes for it to cool down, vacuum it out and within about 30 minutes down time, it is up and running again for another 24 hrs. We have also burned wood in the past, and find this much easier and cleaner and we don't have to babysit it. Since it requires little power, should the power go out, we intend to hook it to the car via a 2000 watt inverter, thus giving us heat in an power outage. Our oil heat now is for hot water and back up only. Based on the rate of fuel oil being burned now, we expect the stove to pay for itself within one full heating season at current oil prices.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! Live in Mercer, Pennsylvania. Recently bought and installed this pellet stove in our 1,500 sq ft two story farm house. Very satisfied heats up home very nicely. Only one complaint, when setting blower on highest level it can get a little loud but I guess that's expected with all pellet stoves. One 40 pound bag during extremely cold winter days lasts up to 24 hours, cheaper than using our kerosene or propane heaters. DVD instructions very helpful, love both the look and performance of this pellet stove.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Stove This is a good stove despite the bad reviews. It will do its job if you keep it clean like it explains in the DVD and the manual. I live in a 1800 sq ft farmhouse and with one ceiling fan and one box fan to distribute the heat. Remember it is not a furnace (no register vents in each room) . Keep it clean and it will perform. Hope this helps
