However, I must admit, when I use for prolonged periods, my fingers hurt. I always thought that the handle was too small. Recently, I bought a Stanley 4 pounder. The handle on the Stanley is thicker and more contoured. I'll probably never use this Estwing again, even though it's a good hammer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great hammer Had an easy time pounding stakes into rocky soil. Didn't need to use an over sized sledge hammer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's a Hammer Not quite sure what to write. It's a hammer! Used mine to break up concrete in the floor to re-run plumbing waste lines. Worked just fine in this application. Small enough to swing in a fairly confined space, and heavy enough to pack some punch. Can envision using this to drive stakes or drive a brick chisel. If you are looking for a decent "Hand Sledge" this could very well be the one for you. Hope this helps

Rated 4 out of 5 by from worked as expected Bought this to pound steel stakes into the ground for my tent, so for that purpose it was perfect, not too large or heavy, did the job I expected it to do. Not pleased it was made in Taiwan, Estwing products used to be USA made which is why I went for that brand, at the price paid it still should be vs the cheaper ones available which were made in China.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Metal Working This is a great hammer! I use it to free stuck metal parts, and the flat face does a good job. The other face does a great job providing concentrated force. The fiberglass handle is durable, and the hammer head is well made. The epoxy bond between the head and handle looks well made. This is a great hammer for a great price! By the way, I have the old one without the rubber grip, but quality should be the same.
