This pump stays on when you plug it in. It also needs to be primed in order to pump.

1/2 HP Portable Utility Pump is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Easy To Set Up. I received the pump today it came very well packed. It comes with two adapters that fit onto the pump then they attach to a standard garden hose. You must prime this pump first by removing a cap on top and pouring water in the reservoir. I attached it to my sprinklers but my yard is so small it was way to powerful I would have had to readjust all the sprinkler heads to use it regularly. Then I used it in the pool to see how fast it would pump, well I own 2 other pumps and this is by far the most powerful fastest pump I have ever owned. next time I drain my pool this will be my go to pump. If you need a powerful pump this is it. It also comes come apart pretty east to clean out any debris that may clog it up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very portable Comes with cord attached ready to plug in and use. Only attachment needed is a hose with length desired. 58 psi boosting pressure. The pump is self priming with handle making this easy to use and transport. There is a built in on off switch on the pump itself rather than having to pull out the cord from receptacle. The attached hose can be submersed rather than the whole unit like most drainage pumps. PVC can also be attached with the supplied adapter

Rated 5 out of 5 by from light weight big punch i had a busted pipe under the house. so i dug a hole to fixed the pipe. and of course it started to rain ...so i had to get the rain water out the hole dug the next day .And i was hoping it would have taken a lot longer that it did. so i did not have to repair the leaking pipe under the house. but this pump did what is said it will do, and it worked great.. well this pump taken out all the rainwater collected and some of the leaking pipes water in no time.i was impress with the pump. now if you are going to be taken out trash water out a muddy hole? Be sure to get your self the Suction Hose Kit with a strainer.so you don't get your pump clog up with trash. well worth the money spent. just to be sure i said it wright. i did wait till the next day to used the pump . it was not raining the next day.. do not use power cords/extension cords in the rain.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Home Depot beware I purchased this as a gift for my father in law to use at his cabin in the Upper Peninsula in Michigan. When he got it to his cabin and opened the box it was very clear that this pump had been used and returned. It still had dirt on it and you could see pipe wrench marks on one of the fittings. When the customer taped the box I understand you don't want to reopen all of the returns but pumps probably should be.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from High pressure, moderate flow rate This pump's product page has it categorized as a "utility transfer pump". The box says it's portable sprinkler pump and will boost city water pressure. It is a high pressure, moderate flow pump. When used as a booster pump, the outlet PSI should not exceed 75PSI. If you don't need the high pressure this pump is capable off, there are other 1/2 HP utility pumps that are cheaper and have greater flow rates, including from the same manufacturer. It's very well made and can be used for extended periods. The motor has ventilation openings and should not be exposed to moisture. The 3-prong cord is 6' long and requires a GCFI outlet. Priming took 5 cups of water. The priming port is only about 1/4" in diameter - not large enough to be useful. I just used the discharge port to prime it. I got it to use as a transfer pump for my pond and fountains. It worked fine to empty my fountain for cleaning.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Prime every time. Working good so far. Puts out good pressure. I'm running over 150' from water source and still working well. Only complaint is you must prime it every time you start it, and it's not easy. Best way is to remove the hose, fill pump, then start as you put hose back on. You can here the sound change when it starts pumping. If it doesn't go in about 5-10 seconds, repeat prime process.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst pump ever!!!! Bought it to supliment a two sprinkler irrigation system with zero lift. All the pump had to do is push the water 25 feet to two overhead sprinklers. Runs for 10 to 15 minutes then shuts off. It is constantly overheating. So if you are looking for an irrigation pump, choose another company.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I am using this pump to pull irrigation water out... I am using this pump to pull irrigation water out of a river to sprinkler. It works great and doesn't loose priming between uses as long as I keep the inlet hose in the water. It works fine on a moderate duty timer. Having to prime is a bit of a pain, though.
