Pressure Relief hole

The Installation instructions do not require a relief hole drilled into the discharge pipe before the Backflow valve. Most other Pumps I have used insist on one. Does this pump not need one, or is this missing from the Instructions.

Good question, I wondered the same thing. Mine is installed and working OK for >1 month,
without the relief hole per the instructions. Discharge time is ~5 seconds, ~30% shorter
than the previous two 1/3 hp pumps WITH relief holes, in same system.
Maybe this shorter run time will save electricity,? So far, so good.

Answer:
I have been using sump pumps for years and have never done that.
I have read drilling a 1/8" hole on an angle to where the water shoots downward within 6" of the discharge on the pump will prevent a vapor lock.
I have never done it and never had a pump vapor lock either.

Can I add a separate switch with for longer run time and less frequency?

I would like to bypass the float switch on the pump and use a separate float switch so the pump does not run as often. Right now it runs for 6 sec and depending on how hard it is raining it cycles quite often. I can fix the pump switch in the on position to add a separate float switch.

Answer:
You don't need to "bypass" or "fix it on" at all. Just plug the 2nd float in series with the pump's power cord.
The switch with the higher limit will control the activation.
Like this: 120VAC wall outlet - 2nd float switch - sump power cord (within in it is a switch then the motor).
If you use one of the tethered type, make sure it can't get stuck on the wall of the pit or anything else or your

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 38 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by the system was already in place when the pump went out. rubber sleeves were used to make things easier....because things do break... the pump makes very little noise and fast.....so far so good.....bought one plastic part extra....$2.......gravy fix October 26, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Easy replacment for a failed pump (the switch) These pumps are generally good for about 5 years in my application. Look at the warranty on the box; is it 1, 2, 3, years... Your mileage may vary. Depends on content of ground water and how often and how long it operates. The usual 'failure mode' is the switch in my case. It either fails to activate the motor or deactivate it when the sump pit is empty. Just wish the switch was available and easily replaceable. This unit uses a float (probably with a magnet in it) that activates the electronic 'switch'. My local HD had the replacement switches in stock for this unit. I'm not sure yet if that is a good or bad thing. Time will tell. I also replaced the check valve and 4 clamps (about $10), the screws rust (the stainless parts are fine). This is the easy disconnect part; all the original PVC stays in place and was reused. ps - don't forget to drill a small hole (1/8") in the discharge line an inch or two up from the pump outlet. The motor is easier to start without the head pressure of the standing water in discharge line. September 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Product seems very good quality Sump pump quality seems great and has a very good reputation. It has been running great for a week now. Feel free to ask me 10 years from now:) August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by So far so good After my old pump went out on a Sunday night, I picked this one up first thing Monday morning. Install was a breeze, (watched a few youtube videos and decided to try it on my own)and she's been doing a great job since then!! Saved myself $$$!! December 29, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Pump does its job, but is a little noisy I bought this pump replaced my original .3 HP pump. It installed easily using 1-1/2" ABS pipe. It does its job, but I'm a little disappointed in how noisy it is. I can hear it operate on the second floor of my house. The float switch activates at a shallower depth than my old one, so it runs more often and I hear it more often. It isn't bad, but it is more noticeable than I'd like. On the plus side, it draws relatively low power compared to some other models I looked at. The power is more than adequate to pump at roughly 10' of lift. Given the noise level, I think it should be priced about $25 cheaper than its listed price of $150. May 3, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by useless store and pump failed I 14 months - short and blew fuse - useless and store gave me problem with warranty. is will be sending notice to Home Depot and Everbilt. July 3, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Noisey Pump is extremely loud. It pumps our good. Don't really recommend for the primary pump due to how noise it is. July 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Submersible pump We got this to use outside. So far it nice and quiet and getting the job done. The reason we chose this one is because it turns on less then 8 inches and off at at a little over two. May 31, 2016
