Pressure Relief hole

The Installation instructions do not require a relief hole drilled into the discharge pipe before the Backflow valve. Most other Pumps I have used insist on one. Does this pump not need one, or is this missing from the Instructions.

Answer:
Good question, I wondered the same thing. Mine is installed and working OK for >1 month,
without the relief hole per the instructions. Discharge time is ~5 seconds, ~30% shorter
than the previous two 1/3 hp pumps WITH relief holes, in same system.
Maybe this shorter run time will save electricity,? So far, so good.

Answer:
I have been using sump pumps for years and have never done that.
I have read drilling a 1/8" hole on an angle to where the water shoots downward within 6" of the discharge on the pump will prevent a vapor lock.
I have never done it and never had a pump vapor lock either.

Mine is nearly two years old and has no sign of rust but if your having that problem you may want to paint the base with a good pond and pool paint. But keep in mind that could be viewed as an alteration and void the warranty .

It can definitely be heard when it runs. There might be other quieter brands, but I've not seen any with db ratings. Could you cover it with a plywood box?

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Product seems very good quality Sump pump quality seems great and has a very good reputation. It has been running great for a week now. Feel free to ask me 10 years from now:) August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by So far so good After my old pump went out on a Sunday night, I picked this one up first thing Monday morning. Install was a breeze, (watched a few youtube videos and decided to try it on my own)and she's been doing a great job since then!! Saved myself $$$!! December 29, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Pump does its job, but is a little noisy I bought this pump replaced my original .3 HP pump. It installed easily using 1-1/2" ABS pipe. It does its job, but I'm a little disappointed in how noisy it is. I can hear it operate on the second floor of my house. The float switch activates at a shallower depth than my old one, so it runs more often and I hear it more often. It isn't bad, but it is more noticeable than I'd like. On the plus side, it draws relatively low power compared to some other models I looked at. The power is more than adequate to pump at roughly 10' of lift. Given the noise level, I think it should be priced about $25 cheaper than its listed price of $150. May 3, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Noisey Pump is extremely loud. It pumps our good. Don't really recommend for the primary pump due to how noise it is. July 12, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by useless store and pump failed I 14 months - short and blew fuse - useless and store gave me problem with warranty. is will be sending notice to Home Depot and Everbilt. July 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Submersible pump We got this to use outside. So far it nice and quiet and getting the job done. The reason we chose this one is because it turns on less then 8 inches and off at at a little over two. May 31, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by unreliable switch With any sump pump of this type you will never get any warnings that is not working till is too late, I bought the sump pump after my old one of 16 years of service stop working, I purchased this !/3 hp Everlast to replace my old one, easy to install, nice and compact I liked the switch system because it was a slider there is no way for this type of switch to get hung, compared to a tether float, but unfortunately after one to three month from installation it was not working, the slider float switch stop floating and and the pump ran it self to death from overheating, I was just over the 90 day Home Depot warranty, so it fell under manufacture warranty, its a sump pump, there is no time to deal with shipping, but Home Depot was kind to help me to purchase another brand at a discounted price, so I could deal with Everlast Pump during their working hours. Thanks for the Help Home Depot. May 15, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by well done This is a very quiet pump. I would have rated it a 5 if the float was adjustable so the pump would not run as often. April 26, 2016
