Customer Questions & Answers

Is the pump supposed to shut off when the water resovoir is drained?

once activated, the pump does not shut off, keeps sucking once activated, even when on a dry surface.
Asked by: Joe10
Yes, that's what the vertical sliding float switch is for....Mine stayed up and burned out the motor!! Of course, I only found this out AFTER my basement flooded. Keep the vertical slide bar clean and cycle it up and down regularly with your hand....Good luck!

Float is stuck at bottom of plastic rod...wont slide up by itself to turn on pump...while located in sump filled with water above top of float.

I bought the pump less than 3 months ago and need to replace " float attachment. Home Depot does NOT sell parts for pump
Asked by: hdt57
You shouldn't have any problem getting home depot to replace the whole thing as long as you have a receipt.

Can this be used for toilet disposal

Asked by: Josebaitoa
I positively would not use it for a toilet. A urinal would be ok, but for solid waste you are only asking for problems. Use a grinder pump if this is the case of a toilet installation fed into this pump.

Has anyone tried reducing the discharge down to 3/4." I would like to use a garden hose but am not sure what that would do to the GPH.

Asked by: Bert
I wouldn't recommend it. Not only will you decrease the GPH by half or more, not including head lift (think about it, the published GPH numbers assume a 1-1/2 inch outlet) but it also increases the heat because the pump is working harder to try to move the higher volume of water through a smaller discharge. Technically it will work, but it will shorten the life of the pump.

Purchased this to replace my 10 year old sump pump that still worked, but was getting tired. Seemed sturdy and well built out of the package, installed just fine, worked ok, no issues. One month later the switch failed, and wouldn't work at all. It's not customer repairable, customer service was of no help. Thank you to Home Depot for the great customer service, and taking it back immediately. Had it not been for my WatchDog backup pump, it would have flooded my basement. Pump is junk.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't buy Float is sensitive to getting stuck. That is why you see the same parts are stocked on the store shelves.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a good purchase! Bought this pump to increase water pumping capacity over my old Ridgid brand 1/2 HP pump due to recent flooding and high water table at our cabin. Pump was easy to install, taking about 30 minutes. However, the pump is much louder, and only lasted for 4 hours of continuous use before it flat out quit on me. Replaced it with a Wayne 3/4 HP, which is much quieter and has been running continously for a week now. Save yourself the headache and get a Wayne pump to start with.

I HAVE HAD IT FOR ABOUT A WEEK AND SINCE IN HAS BEEN RAINING ALMOST EVERY DAY IT HAS KEPT THE WATER LEVEL AT A LOW LEVEL WHICH THE LAST PUMP DID NOT. ALSO THIS PUMP IS VERY QUIET WHEN RUNNING. I WENT DOWN TO CHECK IT BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW IF IT WAS WORKING. WHEN IT KICKED ON I WAS STANDING CLOSE AND IT WAS QUIETLY DOING ITS JOB.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the pump. Plenty of power! I have a huge water drainage issue in my backyard and this was a lifesaver when I started a major project. It clears the water so fast it's amazing and has worked flawless so far. After I'm done with the drainage in my backyard I won't need it but will keep in case of emergency.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor Design of float switch. Vertical float switch failed following 12 months and there is no replacement for the switch to be found. This appears to be a design defect with the switch since I could manually run the pump by pulling the switch up.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Nope Lasted 5 days and stopped working. Got to go swimming in my basement. Thanks for nothing. The throw was even weak compared to other 1 HP pumps too.
