Customer Questions & Answers

Could a 14" ir 15" shelf be used

An earlier answer said 12" but could a 14" or 15" shelf be used with either the short side screwed to the wall or the long side down with 2" sticking out beyond the edge of the brackets? In my project, it would be holding a 12" deep microwave oven with 2" behind for venting. Would that be a disaster?
Asked by: Alice
Yes, I've put very heavy items on 15" wide shelving using the 12x14" brackets. I put the 12" side of the bracket against the wall and the 14" side under the shelf. I place a bracket on each stud of the wall, screwing it into the studs with 1 1/2" screws.

can you use these on drywalls without stud support?

On bedroom walls where the studs aren't located where the braces are to be placed - not an ideal situation.
Asked by: Neo
You can, but you'll need very good Wall Anchors to hold the shelf bracket screws and, depending on the length of the span, you may need to use smaller spacing between the brackets (extra brackets) to distribute the load.

On the 14" x 12" bracket, does the 14" need to be attached to the wall or can the 12" be on the wall?

Asked by: Megabyte
I believe you can orient the brackets either way. I use them with 15" wide shelves and place the 14" leg under the shelf. I screw the 12" leg into every wall stud behind the shelf. They support very heavy loads this way with no sagging.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sturdy and stylish black brackets I like these brackets because they are sturdy and inexpensive yet stylish in black. Used them to mount 8 three-foot long ebony stained shelves. Glued living room carpet on top of the shelves, then staggered them on two walls for the cats to jump and climb on. They are very sturdy and very attractive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sleak & Nice Easy to use shelving that lives up to its weight requirements. I bought a few of these. Some for shelving in the garage. I like the black to it. It hides well in the dark. I also got some for support to the underbelly of existing shelves. Works nicely. The screw/holes are okay and easy to install with a drill bit (pilot hole first!).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well Made Bracket Installing black shelves in my garage, the brackets needed to be black as well for the look I wanted in the "Gal Cave" I'm constructing. Very pleased with the quality of the brackets and the fact that I was able to order them online and HD had them at their Customer Service desk when I arrived.
