#10 (2 1/2") vs. #14 (2") internal square drive screws?

I plan to use four each 12 in x 8 in brackets to support a six foot wide shelf (12 inches deep, 3/4 inch thick). I don't anticipate placing more than 150 lbs on the shelf. I plan to use internal square drive screws to minimize the risk of stripping the screws during installation. I can use #10 (2 1/2 inch) or #14 (2 inch) screws to attach the brackets thru dry wall into studs. Would there be a significant difference support-wise when using #10 (2 1/2 inch) versus #14 (2 inch) screws?

I am confused by the specification which says the "height" is 1.12in. How many inches tall is the vertical part of the bracket, the part that parellel with and attached to the wall.

I'm planning on adding a continuous shelf along the entire wall of a room and it is aprox. 14.5 feet long, it is meant to hold books, so it will be kind of heavy; how much space should I leave in between the positioning of the brackets/ how many would i need?

Answer:
The number of brackets and spacing is subjective, but suggest 7 - 8 minimum. The shelf bracket supports 600 pounds, which includes the shelf and whatever is placed on the shelf. I would suggest that you make sure that the shelf brackets are anchored into wall studs due to the length of the span and the potential amount of weight it will support.

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 10 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice enough to be in plain view in living room. Very nice nickel finish shelf brackets. Currently holding a 35-pound center speaker, cable receiver and antenna. Figure 5 pounds for the shelf, 5 more for the electronics plus that speaker. Bolted it to brick using Redhead masonry anchors. Great product, solid as a rock. September 4, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 12 in. x 8 in. Satin Nickel Heavy Duty Shelf Bracket Works as expected, would buy again if needed. Thank you. January 20, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Allot of Uses I used four (4) of these brackets to make a heavy duty outboard motor stand. Two -10 foot 2X4's and #14 screws. I made a stand that will hold four small outboard motors. November 11, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Stutdy, yet elegant I used this bracket to build a book shelf attached to drywall. Since the supporting inclined part is vertical, it allows you to save space between books. March 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Really nice product. It's a great product, but for the price I thought the screws should be included. .Not a deal buster and I don't fault Home Depot. That's just the way it was packaged. I would recommend it to anyone. It was easily installed and the shelf looks great, partly because of the brackets in my opinion. That's partly why I purchased them. The nickel tone looks great! June 24, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Shelf Brackets that are strong. Good product. Very strong and well built. Nice finish. August 19, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Check your measurements before buying Purchased these for creating a home library. The sturdy-ness is great, price is fair, looks are good but they are NOT as advertised. I sorted thru the display box to find ones with smooth edges, matching dimensions, & clean paint finish. One bracket was about 1/8 inch shorter than the others. But wait. When I got them home and held them against my shelf, I learned the stated 8x12 inch size is not accurate at all!. The 8-inch side measured over 8 1/4. The 12-inch side was closer to 11 1/2. Ugh. I can't have brackets sticking out from under my shelf. Another trip to the store to return. December 1, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works Great Brackets were easy to hang with the appropriate screws. Sticker on product lists the exact length screw, which was helpful. December 10, 2014
